From the surface of Christophsis, Senator Bail Organa conferences via hologram with Anakin Skywalker and Admiral Wullf Yularen on-board the Star Destroyer Resolute. Separatist forces are on the verge of overrunning his position, and his food, water and munitions have all but run out. The hologram is cut off as another Republic ship is hit by incoming laser fire, and Skywalker and Yularen desperately try to salvage their own losing battle against the Separatist blockade around Christophsis. The enemy flagship Invincible bears down on the Republic fleet, with the Separatist commander Admiral Trench concentrates his fire on the smaller Republic supply ships. As Skywalker prepares to over-fire all reactors on the Resolute and charge the enemy flagship, another Republic cruiser, the Negotiator commanded by Obi-Wan Kenobi, emerges from hyperspace behind them. At the insistence of Kenobi—who claims he has a new toy—and Yularen, Skywalker reluctantly orders a retreat to behind Christophsis's moon. Trench allows them to go, reminding his tactical droid that their orders are to blockade, not pursue. Crossing over to Kenobi's cruiser, Anakin discovers his Master's new weapon: a prototype stealth ship equipped with a powerful cloaking device. Skywalker is excited by the potential of this ship, but Kenobi insists his new mission is not to engage the Separatist fleet; instead, Skywalker is to use the stealth ship to sneak through the blockade and deliver supplies to Senator Organa on the surface of Christophsis. Meanwhile, Admiral Yularen, doing some research of his own, notices something on the enemy flagship: a strange emblem that he recognizes in horror. Catching up with Anakin as the Jedi is about to depart, Yularen explains that the symbol is the personal crest of the infamous Admiral Trench. Anakin is surprised, since history tells Trench perished at the Battle of Malastare Narrows. Yularen, who fought at the battle, relates what he remembers about the battle. Trench had been in command of a corporate fleet blockading Malastare and his tactics had been deadly enough to thwart the Republic fleet sent against him. Yularen comments that he lost many good men and the Republic fleet barely managed to survive. Only when a Jedi-led task force arrived did the tide of battle turn. It was assumed that Trench went down with his ship, but the tactics used in the earlier battle and the appearance of Trench's symbol makes Yularen believe his old enemy has returned. Undeterred, Anakin takes off with the stealth ship, accompanied by Yularen as a volunteer. Meanwhile, Trench, wanting to add pressure to the Republic fleet still hiding behind the nearby moon, dispatches a squad of Hyena-class bombers to the planet surface, with the intention of bombing Organa's command center. After narrowly avoiding an inadvertent collision with the bombers, and having receiving a message from Obi-Wan regarding Bail's peril, Anakin decides to attack Trench's ship directly, hoping to divert Trench's attention from the planet. De-cloaking to attack, the stealth ship fires four proton torpedoes, only for them to explode harmlessly against the Invincible's thermal shields. Trench responds with two missiles of his own, but Skywalker utilizes decoy flares to divert the missiles away from his ship, and is able to re-cloak. Trench orders a barrage of laser fire, but Anakin skillfully avoids it. Trench surmises that the stealth ship must be piloted by a Jedi, since no clone is skilled enough to avoid such a barrage. Trench transmits a message over an open frequency, commending Skywalker's bravery and daring, but warning he has faced and beaten ships armed with cloaking devices before.

wtf did they just made a humanoid tarantula as a species? I'm not sure whether that's just laziness or subtle genius

You gotta respect Trench. Sure, they try to make him seem like a typical bad guy with the scary look and voice and "I smell fear", but he's just a soldier doing his job for what he thinks is right. And he's good at his job, too. Most separatists genuinely believed in the cause to be free from the republic and had no idea they were bing played

Yularen: Full forward shields! INCOMING FIRE!
Clone: Well no shit! They've been shooting at us from there for half an hour! -
Just one thing i don't understand when he was informed that another cruiser was arriving he looked behind him and there's no way to see the arriving cruiser. What can Anakin see through walls?
-
I imagine a good ol Mandator Star Dreadnought would've helped here (and in many other engagements). Seriously though, where are/were the Mandator SDs during the Clone Wars? (Please don't use 'they're not canon' as an explanation, I'd like actual details.

Roger Roger both droids bang into each other
did anyone else think it was a little funny -
Trench vs Thrawn
-
Separatist for life

What is up with this intense outnumbering?!?
I mean, there is 3 venators and 3 supply ships againts 19 Munificents, 6 massive Lucrehulks and a large Providence destroyer!
Even with the additional Venator from Obi-wan, the republic would be very badly outnumbered.
This is even worse than the battle over Ryloth! =O
But i still love it! XD -
The most disappointing thing about the admiral is that he had such a strategic mind, but he was a huge supporter of the empire.
-
Trench was also the first of the enemy (depending on what side you were on) to discovery the first clues to Order 66.

I wish they would have made a slightly more serious attempt in showing a war.
"I smell fear and it smells good" really? give him a black cloak and a mustache too so we dont miss how evil he is. This is war. There is no good and evil just 2 opposing sides with different interests and agendas. Make the sith the stupidly evil bad guys if you have to but the common separatist should have really believed he was fighting for the right cause. -
This if it was quality like Rebels where the Light Sables bleed BABY thanks to Disney for the great book of Ahsoka and his sables
-
I love those capital ship to capital ship fights of the Clone Wars. Miss them;)

Trench sounds like Beast Wars Megatron, yes.

I like how this scene shows anakin in his sort of childish overconfident self like in aotc thinking he can just blast right by the blockade but as the show progresses he becomes a wise war hero. It shows that this is in the early stages of the war and anakin is still getting use to his command role. Or it could not be that at all and im just trying to make an excuse for his massive character change from aotc to tcw although it was a positive character change. :P

Trench's ship seems like it could take on the republics warships singlehandedly
-
Space is a 3 dimensional plane yet these battles usually reverts to our familiar 2 dimensional thinking. That blockade is only one single line, the Republic ships could've approached the planet from ANY other direction.
