A look at Space Ace, the animated laserdisc arcade game released in 1984. Join Pat the NES Punk, James Rolfe, Pro Jared, and others as we talk about great games! Space Ace is a laserdisc video game produced by Don Bluth Studios, Cinematronics and Advanced Microcomputer Systems (later renamed RDI Video Systems). It was unveiled in October 1983, just four months after the Dragon's Lair game, then released in Spring 1984, and like its predecessor featured film-quality animation played back from a laserdisc.

These vids are always sooo good. Wish they were all a lil longer.

hypothetically, couldn't space ace and dragon's lair be released on DVD? like a playable menu screen? i mean, basically all you need are the same controls as a DVD menu screen; couldn't this work? i think it could be a really cool little novelty to release both games on a DVD together. is this possible? is it just too stupid? what do you think?

This video needed some JonTron.

Laser rot isn't caused by the laser. it is a flaw in manufacturing. if it doesn't have the flaw it will NEVER get laser rot, unless it is mishandled. sure the laser and mechanical features can wear out, just like any optical media player, but the laser will not damage the laser disc.

laser rot? Is this a thing?

@1:39 Fuck all...I can't watch this series anymore.

I'll dislike any videos with Rarez

why does Ian always wear a hood?

I'm surprised there aren't half a dozen JonTron quotes yet.

Dragon's Lair came out during the Dungeons and Dragons/Conan/Beastmaster/Dragonslayer era.... It hit on a fad at the time, and that's one reason why it was popular. Love Dragon's Lair. Space Ace.... Have it. Rarely do I play it. It's a bit too convoluted with camera angle changes all the time and weird abstract animation. Still, great artwork.

I loved Dragons Lair but I always loved Space Ace more.

Why does Ian wear the hood for only these videos?
-
Sci-fi is overdone. Fantasy isn't done enough. Been that way since the 50's.

I always wonder why the cartoon is never mentioned. I've seen various people comenting on the game but no one seems to know there was a cartoon

Ian Nailed it the timing was super hard, for me the only game that got this right was Dragon's Lair 2, it was near perfect for timing, as well. giving you a proper light signal on sword/entry way for best way to progress.
