While this episode pretty much sucks, it should be noted Fred only wrote three. This, Rules of Luton and Beta Cloud. They're all runarounds with pretty silly monsters. A couple of other episodes in year 2 had bad scripts... All That Glisters had some very corny dialog and Pip and Jane Baker's Matter of Balance was typically loony. But I say don't let these ones put you off year 2... there are also scripts from great writers like Terrance Dicks, Terrence Feely, Donald James and Tony Barwick, who had solid track records on other sci fi and fantasy series and year 1 writers like Johnny Byrne still contributed some good ones as well.

I remember this episode from my childhood, I was about six at the time.
-
Fred Freiberger story shows how bad stories were in the second season
-
The special effects scene in the hangar 20:57 is one of the few things to stick around for.
-
I don't think Barbara Bain smiled once during the two seasons of this show
-
This has probably been mentioned. But, HOW do they manage to repair all that constant damage considering their plight?
-
At 39:20 his face shield swings open and he didn't die :)

You have to wonder what some of the writers were thinking? They found an alien starship, obviously created by a highly advanced and technological species probably capable of FTL (we were 12 parsecs from the mother ship, that's 36 light years). They tow it aboard, and nobody thinks of actually using that amazing ship TO GO HOME??? First thing if I was commander is to learn about it, reverse engineer its drive and power capabilities, adapt it to human standards, and blast the damn thing with the crew and myself back home. Alpha's star charts would have probably had their starting point obviously from Earth and with the "warp detector" have at least allowed them to navigate a course back or even find a more suitable planet to inhabit. With the ship's advanced capabilities at least a human colony is feasible.

Arguably they knew their audience: as a child I LOVED season 2. It was only when I grew older that my opinion of season 1 and season 2 reversed.

This is Space:1999 trying it's best to be the Six Million Dollar Man; both silly, cheesy, and aimed at juveniles. Sad because the first year was pretty awesome.

Badass shit at 20:56

When Maya 1st changed here at abt 10:14, the facial expression there suddenly reminded me of Bill Bixby's expression as Dr Banner whenever he was abt to change.... I could just imagine Maya having white eyes there! haha....

I'm sort of surprised the way Season One went so well, and Season Two, well...

Stun never works!
-
airs not her only problem.Their in deep space with a temp close to absolute zero. plus no pressure.
-
ever notice every docking port in the universe just happens to work perfectly with the eagles docking interface? convenient huh?
-
i think their biggest problem would be the FIRE IN THE EAGLE HANGER! 2 guys in tinfoil with fire extinguishers isn't going to cut it.
-
nice to see alan in charge for once.

Featuring the incidental music from Space 6969

Great to see the alien derelict ship computer was able to pick up on the language the 2 alphans were speaking and automatically translate the aliens language into the language the 2 alphans spoke, and morph the alien numbers on the computer panel into earth numbers.
I LUV THIS EPISODE...
