32:33 The lesbian tension is repelling the black sun. Never underestimate the power of females in heat.

Good grief, the old person makeup is awful.

I've often said 1999 owed a lot to ghost stories. Here the Alphans become transparent, ghost-like, thanks to alien intervention. What's interesting is that matter can't go past light speed so maybe becoming temporarily ghost-like, non-matter beings, is the only way to pass through a black hole, the only way to survive a journey of a million light years. The enigmatic alien seems to take them out of time so they can grow old and be young again, walk among the stars, etc. So, despite often being criticized for "bad science", this show gives us an interesting notion of how we might get around the limitations imposed by the material Universe with alien assistance.

Most Amazing sci fi series for decades !almost all episodes were great, interesting and different, this is one of my favourites
The acting in most cases was first class and so were the guest stars appearing in different episodes, the music theme is superb and so are the classical themes used that are very fitting, for some of us these series will never die at least not while we live and remember them. -
I loved this as a kid and I still love it now.

Not enough time to secure the base?! You will be flattened anyway

OMG I had such a crush on Sandra back in the day! She is such a cutie with that space mullet!
It's amazing how good this series still looks...except for the black and white CRT screens, it really holds up. It's the sets, miniatures, writing, acting--love all the British actors, especially Barry Morse. Too bad he left the show after the first season!
Gerry and Sylvia Anderson were geniuses who are hopefully getting the respect they so much deserve! (I know Gerry is not with us anymore...)
LOVE THIS SHOW! -
If you ever wanted to encapsulate 70s SF in under and hour (even if sometimes it feels longer) then this episode does it.

It says 1975 at the beginning but the roman numerals at the end of the show say 1974

So glad someone posted this classic British series, created by the innovative Andersons. In many ways they were ahead of their time (first series to consider that we came from 'out there', even before Battlestar Gallactica,1978) and this episode correctly deals with a black hole (the "black sun", an apt description), which no series or movie did then (and also correctly showed what is theorized would happen if someone fell into one, which very, very few series or movies do). Thus scientific accuracy was important to them (except we were not that advanced by 1999, but at the time of this series, just 3 yrs since the final Moon landing, we really thought we would have a Moon base soon). Some of the effects were superior to other TV and movie sci-fi as well as an emphasis on futuristic gadgetry (some of which are perfectly plausible, and very clever). I also love the way Martin Landau and his real life wife, Barbara Bain, aren't playing it as B movie melodrama, but using their considerable acting skills, and this series was lucky to get them. They gave the show realism and a lot of class.
