Excellent episode.
(Even though the idea of a shock wave in a vacuum in nonsense.) -
You could base a drinking game around how often they use the word "radiation" in each episode. They seem to use it about a hundred times. So you could get very drunk.

This one is problematic. The script is chok-a-block with fantastic ideas, and some of the dialogue reaches almost mythic grandeur, especially when Margaret Leighton is on screen. But overall, the execution is rushed. A often fails logically to connect with B in terms of plotting. This story actually could have used two parts to really unfold it properly, but unfortunately nobody seemed to allow for that possibility and the episode does suffer for it. Koenig is a bit out of character from the beginning and it puts the whole production off-kilter. Still a quite watchable fifty minutes, but with a few glaring flaws.

They still listen to disco in 1999?

Okay why did that shuttle just lower that space capsule on that asteroid as if it were a helicopter hovering above Earth? There should be zero gravity on that small asteroid. A small booster rocket would easily do the job.

I can't believe this all happened in 1999? Where the was I?

When I first saw Space 1999 as a kid, I thought Alan Carter was part of the science fiction aspect, like an alien character. But then I found out he was Australian. And I guess they really do exist--on Earth.
Of course I'm joking. I'm a real homebody, and it's unlikely I'll ever cross the boundaries of the United States. But back in the 1999 days, I had a crush on an Australian girl whose father worked for an American company that was so bad that I would do typical stupid guy things in an attempt to impress her. Oh,that accent. The girl's, not Carter's. -
Margaret Leighton was dying when she made this. It's an astonishing performance, full of resonance and power. The whole ep is a fabulous mind-teaser on the show's mystery as to how and why the Moon has gone wandering among the stars. Is it really part of some vast cosmic game-plan? We are left to wonder as in the best stores.
