Another Sound Blaster and Roland MT-32 comparison. Jump to 4:00 for the MT-32 version. I've included a short video overlay of the MT-32's display, so you can see the famous "INSERT BUCKAZOID" message. Like in Quest for Glory 2, the MT-32 version suffers the loss of digital sound ("Where am I?"). But since that's the only digital sound in the game, it's no great loss.

this is simply one of the best sierra songs ever... siebert right??? fucking woww... this and eranas peace are my fav songs i think... the sound blaster/adlib versions are always better!!! the sounds stand out more :D

Mt32 was a good sound but when the guy from when hejumped out of the space craft it sounds like it has bass added into the sound and the mt sounds great for comparison!

There is also a MOD ProTracker version of this game intro. I heard it long before I played the game.

I prefer the good old archaic sound blaster sound :D I'm just very retrospective when it comes to those kinds of things :D.

The Tandy soundcard was superior to both of these. I could HEAR him say "where am I?" Neither of these have that.

Having grown up playing Sierra games, I have very fond and nostalgic memories of any of these, but SQ3 is one of the "big ones" for me, and that opening theme just takes me back to first seeing it running as a demo on a electronics store computer.
Even back then, I "knew" there was a magic little box called the MT-32 that you could plug in and get much better music, but it wasn't until many years later thanks to the internet that I got to hear what SQ3 should sound like!
These days, we can actually emulate an MT-32 fairly closely, which is the nearest I've got to recapturing the magic fully, however one day I would like to track down a real module and hook it up, just to see those magical words "Insert Buckazoid" appear in person... :) -
They remade KQ over this or PQ? Bull...

Hearing those amazing sounds in combination with what looks like 16-color VGA graphics is kinda weird.

I can't believe that they don't soften the attack of the lead instrument of the theme song in the SB voice. The clicking destroys the sound.

The MT-32 was a budget synth with similar chips as the D-110 and D-220 rack synths. It wasn't meant as a gaming music system, but rather as a prosumer level box meant for home composition. Pros used the D-50 if they needed just a single sound, or the D-20 if they wanted a multi-timbral box. I'd love to hear a version of the theme hooked up to a D-20, to see how big the difference is between the two LA synths (MT-32 and D20/D220)

AdLib: Squeezing some pretty good sounds out of the adlib, I'd say. MT-32: *DROOL* DO WANT.

I did the same thing on video tape back in the early 90s on VHS tape, lol. Sierra did take advantage of the MT-32, and really made their games shine with the ones that supported it, even those subliminal messages (insert buckazoid, etc) was a plus.

because Roland paid them to do it to promote their cards. AdLib did the same to a certain extent. They all worked together and made the "live from the sierra lounge" cassette tapes, which were tapes of AdLib and MT-32 music on sierra games made to sell the sound devices.
