Solar Panel Systems For Beginners - Series Vs Parallel Battery Banks
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
In this 4th video in the series, I will show you the differences between batteries wired in series and batteries wired in parallel. I also show you how to wire in both series AND parallel at the same time. Finally, I explain a little bit about why you would use each type of system in your off-grid solar panel system.

whats the difference between a charge controller and a power inverter?

Hi please help me i added 4 nimh battery in series and voltage gets added but surprisingly current also got added. ( 1.2 v and 2800 ma) . Multimeter reading shows 5.3 volt and current was more than 10 amp.
-
i got 2 12v battery, 40ah & 62ah. Can i joint them together in parallel to boost the amp hour?
-
Thanks for sharing it really help me.

I still don't understand Hr

Hi LDS ! I like your teaching methods. I am severely way behind the learning curve.# 1 I have (3) 305 watt 24 volt panels voc 39.6 8.9 amp max c each#2 (4) 205 a/h 6 volt RE Deep cycle gulf cart batteries# (1) 12v 2500 watt msw power inverterQ? Do I run the battery bank in parallel to accommodate my 12 volt Power InverterQ? Should I use the larger 60 or 80 amp MPPT CC and will it regulate the array to not overcharge the bankQ? 2gauge on terminals 10-12 ga on everything elseQ? 30 amp fuses on pos. out-side of inverter and a 50 amp on pos. input to controller or inverter?Do I run the bank in both series and parallel or just P vs S ?Any advise is much appreciated !

Suppose using 4 nos. of 1.2V 2800mah batteries in parallel connection for developing a power bank that requires a current(mah) much more rather than voltage, the voltage will remains the same bt will the huge amount of current can blows the circuit?

Excellent, I finally understand!

You are a very good teacher ! Thank you for lesson.

Hi does a 12v solar panel have to go with a 12v battery & 24v solar panel with a 24v battery? Also what is the difference between a 12v system & a 24v system? Thank you.
-
Answered my own question (I think) after reviewing video and others again. Connecting the 2 - 12 volt batteries in parallel wouldn't make 24 volts and double amps but rather remain 12 volts with double ah. For the 24 volts, they would all have to be wired in series but the ah would remain 225ah.
-
In setting up a 24v system using 4 - 6 volts 225ah batteries, is it not more efficient to create 2 - 12 volt batteries in series and then connect them parallel (doubling the amp hours to 450ah) to make 24 volts rather than connecting the all the batteries in series to make one 24 volt system with 225ah?

This is a great video. The whole purpose is to show how the connections are made. It's as simple as that. Heck the batteries could have been completely dead, it would have made no difference what so ever. It's all about the CONNECTIONS.... Again, Great video, Thanks for sharing.

thank you

hi when you connect negative to positive does it spark
-
GEEZUS, you couldn't have charged the battery first??? how do you live with yourself?
-
Thanks for your advice , I'll take the 24volt route.

Hi there, just a quick question on a solar set up that I'm doing.
Before I start I have 4 X 90watt panels @ 18 volts each, 4 X 6v torjan batteries @225ah each and a 30A mppt charge controller 12v-24 volts.
The maximum panels the charge controller can handle is 12v @ 390watts and 760 watts @24v. Which is the best way to go ie 12v or 24v.
Any help would be appreciated.
Ps great video. -
Good explanation for a beginner. Thanks for the clearing up the battery labeling info I haven't seen anywhere else.

Nice explanation, I have question what if we connect two different amps/h battery in parallel and in series, what happen if lower amps/h battery drained before other in series and in parallel
