July 9, 2009, Menlo Park, Calif.—The earliest stars in the universe formed not only as individuals, but sometimes also as twins, according to a paper published Science Express in July 2009. By creating robust simulations of the early universe, astrophysicists at the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology and Michigan State University have gained the most detailed understanding to date of the formation of the first stars. This computer-simulation shows the formation of two high density regions (yellow) in the early universe, approximately 200 million years after the Big Bang. The cores are separated by about 800 times the distance between the Earth and the Sun, and are expected to evolve into a binary—or "twin"—star system. Get the whole story here "http://bit.ly/fKGlvW"
