Sharpest Observation of Quasar Ever, Using APEX | ESO Astronomy Black Hole HD Video
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Visit my website at http://www.junglejoel.com - this video shows an artist's interpretation of quasar 3C 279. Using radio telescopes, astronomers connected APEX, in Chile -to the Submillimeter Array (SMA) in Hawaii, USA; and the Submillimeter Telescope (SMT) in Arizona, USA. They were then able to make the sharpest direct observation ever of the center of a distant galaxy, the bright quasar 3C 279, more than 5 billion light-years away. The quasar contains a supermassive black hole in it's center. APEX is a collaboration between the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (MPIfR), the Onsala Space Observatory (OSO) and ESO. APEX is operated by ESO. Please rate and comment, thanks! Credits: ESO/M. Kornmesser

The title is a bit misleading ("simulation" is more accurate), but otherwise a great upload!

I want sharks with quasar beams on their heads.

It'd be interesting to know who are good astronomers and good artists.

Nice, but an artist's interpretation' is not a real observation. It entails lots of estimation.
