Securing our RV solar battery bank & fan install - Nomadic Native

American 'Indianeering' at it's finest, ha! We really are learning as we go here folks. The solar power system I installed in our 2004 Winnebago Sightseer 35N works great, awesome even, but use has a way of making my errors obvious. The battery bank is heavy, but not heavy enough to keep it from sliding around inside it's compartment if not adequately secure. So, in this video I go back and solve the sliding issue. I also install an exhaust fan within the battery bay to move any outgassing out of the compartment to open air. Having read a lot on lead acid batteries and outgassing, I've learned that modern solar charge controllers and 4 stage converter/chargers minimize this outgassing to very low levels. Still, even though our system has been working just fine without any outgassing issues at all, I've decided to install a 12 volt exhaust fan in the compartment.

God bless and have a wonderful day -
I'm thinking that you did such a clean job you should clamp them down too. I find its not difficult to find a bump bigger than my suspension can handle on my old RV. . I was thinking the compartment looked huge until you filled it right up with all those batteries. It did come out clean

Just a thought, you might want to put a toggle switch on that fan. The batters only really gas when being charged.Saves the life of the fan & less drain on the batteries !

Nice job Matt. I probably would have mounted the fan more toward the top of the compartment due to the fact that hydrogen is lighter than air. Probably will not be a concern as that fan is exchanging a large volume of air anyway.

well im not sure if i was correct but are you using all the same cable size on your battery bank. i had an issue with my set up and it was the cables not "thick" enough to allow power to flow through and the cables were getting hot !!!! but please could not see all set up . and thats my next project to replace mine with the trojan .. be well cheers
