Some scientists claim that the universe did not have a beginning. Some theologians contend that the universe did not need a beginning. Unless matter can spontaneously come into existence from nothing, it makes no sense to speak of the universe as ever not existing. Maybe it's just our little corner of the universe that is expanding.
-
I've just found this guy and he has immediately become my favourite cosmologist... he is extraordinarily articulate!
-
At 1:18 Sean says "the expansion rate was infinite." If that's true then the universe must be spatially infinite.

Great!!

The problem about the state of the early universe Carroll talked about is this: Early universe is in a specific way. Why is it in that specific state but why is it not structured in any other way? This cannot be answered with physics. As he admits, we have to accept the way it was as it is. He tries to solve this problem by wishing for even earlier states and hoping for them to not end up in a physics dilemma. It is the perpetual denial of the absolute.
I don't believe you can escape from an absolute specific state of the universe. The real question here is: "Why is the absolute state of the universe is the way it is but not any other way?" This cannot be truly answered without refering to a consciousness who can choose the begining state of a universe. -
Did he say at the end that his best guess is based on wishful thinking?

Brilliant person

Steven Hawking said the universe came into existence, is not the reason there is no design. Not even an assumed fluctuation. Atheism emanates from such scenarios of spontaneity or fluctuation of unknown types. Deliberate denial of fine tuned design. Atheism is a fashion designed to fool the others, for TV show money.
What a world we live in?
There is no north of the north pole, is the reason why some physicists are atheists? -
does that mean in a suppose, if we went to a part of space where a big bang has not happened switched on a wave emitting device with every vibration that is, we could trigger a big bang
-
Although not my favorite, this guy baffles me with his 100% perfect speech and flow of speech.. I can't detect any flaws anywhere in any of his videos. Not even an "uh" . I believe that is one indication of an extremely high IQ.

In the final analysis, Carroll's reason for not wanting the universe to have a "beginning" is the same as for the universe having a "beginning", so we can only assume he is convinced the universe has a beginning, as most cosmologists are convinced the universe has a beginning, but he'd rather not say the universe has a beginning, or that the universe is fine-tuned, for the sole purpose of avoiding anyone bringing deism into the discussion, and for no other purpose. Yet, there's no reason to avoid stating the obvious conclusion that the universe has a beginning and is fine-tuned, because a finite, fine-tuned universe only results in the deduction that an infinite, intelligent, and personal creator exists, and that Genesis is extremely accurate in it's historical description of the creation of heaven and Earth, and so one doesn't have to agree with the claim that Jesus is Lord by being scientifically honest about the universe having a beginning, although Jesus being Lord is certainly the best claim to explain all of the empirical evidence to date, both within science, and within the Church.
-
"It is said that an argument is what convinces reasonable men and a proof is what it takes to convince even an unreasonable man. With the proof now in place, cosmologists can no longer hide behind the possibility of a past-eternal universe. There is no escape: they have to face the problem of a cosmic beginning....all the evidence we have says that the universe had a beginning.” - Alexander Vilenkin
-
9:07 His best guess is that the universe didn't have a beginning because he doesn't like it's implications. That not science, that's emotion.
-
No.
-
So in the end his best guess is his best wish :)
One has to start somewhere I guess -
The camera operator needs to be beaten with a hose. There is NO FUCKING REASON to keep moving left to right on whatever shitty camera slider you bought.

It is really annoying to hear people use the word "nothing" when they actually mean some kind of vacuum in which fluctuations can occur. "Nothing" is synonymous with non-existence. On the other hand, something about the Universe (by which I don't mean the observable spacetime) has to be eternal, whether the Big Bang picture is true or not. That ultimate original Something must be what we inevitably come to when asking "Where did X come from?".
-
still the question is who put all these partical ..gas laws of phisics .....even empty space into existence. ?!

Why not universe is periodic? Since everything is periodic, it is natural that their combinations, which is the universe, is also periodic. We take birth, mature, and then die. Our lives are periodic. We know stars take birth, grow, and then die. Thus life of a star is also periodic. Therefore universe will take birth, grow, and then die. Universe can slowly take birth, just like humans do, grow slowly, and then die slowly also. Then again start taking birth.
Note that universe is not an entity, it is the collection of all stars, galaxies etc. So there will be a time when one by one all galaxies will die and the universe will die, remain dead for a period. Then again one by one all galaxies will take birth. As they take birth, the universe will expand, to give room for all galaxies. Take a look at the process in the book https://theoryofsouls.wordpress.com/ -
