RV Solar Living Basics: How Many Batteries and Panels to Use
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
To build or design your own personal solar powered system, you will need to know how much energy you use on a daily basis. You must be able to calculate all your regular appliances into DC amps if you're going to be running off regular DC batteries. Then you can calculate amp hours and determine your system size, how many batteries you need and how many panels you'll need. Along with posting questions, answers and partaking on the RV living community at http://www.pippenings.com you can now read and comment on my personal blog which will features posts and topics ranging from RV DIY renovations to RV living to more Pippenings :) Join me there and be sure to get your "Keep It Simple" bumper sticker! i just got to the part of your audit sheet .... rather than trying to convert things from"ac "amps and "dc" amps ( there really is no difference ) just convert everything to watts .... then everything that is going through the inverter , increase the watts by 30% , by multiplying the total by 1.30 ... this should be enough to account for inverter losses . then add the total watts used together and this will give you your total watts being drawn from your battery bank

Oh my goodness, you use English for people that aren't electrical engineers or math professors. How unique! Finally, something that people like me, who don't care to become experts in the field, can listen to and apply in a practical way. Thank you!

The BEST,(but more expensive) batteries for not only RV, but any small solar system are the SLA (sealed lead acid) AGM (absorbed glass mat) batteries. These batteries are literally maintenance free... no monitoring fluid levels, no off gassing that needs to be vented, and less susceptible to damage from over discharging. AGM batteries are also much less susceptible to problems when used in prolonged cold environments.
AGM batteries are a little more expensive at the onset, but are worth it in the longer run. AGM batteries, unlike standard SLA's can be stored either upright, or even on their sides...Unlike standard SLA batteries.
Just a suggestion folks. -
..and love the Pink Floyd

Thanks and very cool

I realize you are not an electrical engineer... But better do some research before making a video... Making calculations that simple makes them wrong in so many ways....
-
plus the lower your slave batteries drop the harder it is for them to charge up fast from solar panels

You should build an 18650 powerwall from old laptop batteries. Videos all over youtube on people doing it. I have one myself at home. https://www.facebook.com/groups/diypowerwalls/

Love geeky/techie girls! Good stuff!
(but should add in a disclaimer) -
great video, thank you!

so good, i was looking for such a video for a long time

What great penmanship ... a dying art ..

Good video, I used my 100watt suitcase portable solar panel to keep my one group 29 battery charged in our summer trip to Alaska. One handy item was a cheap 12 volt digital monitor you plugged into the 12 volt outlet to let you know actually what volts your batteries are at.

VERY INFORMATIVE‼️👍🏻☀️☀️☀️

This might be the best explanation I've heard of this. Thank you for the extreme clarity.

Pippi, be careful of that English trolling imbecile ALEXANDER WEBSTER as I see she's back on again. Remember her name is Louise Parkins age 55, DOB 1/5/1961..Louise is all over the Eight Miles From Home vlogs, destroying them in the process.

I think you forgot the most important electric appliance anyone can have Refrigerator.

Pippi, why aren't you a Lecturer or Professor in some University on a salary of $350,000 dollars + a year ? :-) Not only are you a beautiful looking young woman but you are so smart that you would put a lot of us boys to shame. Whow, . . Excellent Vlog.

KISS= Keep It Simple (Stupid). This is what I tell everyone when I'm building and/or remodeling things. But, when it comes to electrics, just do it right. I love all the in depth research you've done on this subject. Sure has saved me a lot of time so, THANK YOU.
