Rick and Morty live in a universe that expands infinitely until worlds where everything is on the cob becomes commonplace. when rick finds himself in nested universes is it unreasonable to assume that he's discovered a higher power that looks over the Rick and Morty universe?

Wowww if you think about it Mr. Poopybutthole was actually watching the show at the end of season 2, what if he's the god of Rick's universe? Think about it, in the episode "The Rickall", Mr. Poopybutthole came out of no where and even added himself to the intro. What if that show's that he can do it because he is the god of that universe?

The theory contradicts itself. The theory is that his universe could be destroyed if viewers lose interest because then the creators will stop making new episodes. But another thing is pointed out; Even outside of the episodes or between scenes, Rick is repeating information and waiting until air dates to do interesting things. That obviously means his universe exists whether there are episodes or not. It just begs the question about why he does these things during air dates. Because he's a smartass?

In season 1 ep 1, rick uses his portal gun to go to the future and get morty something to fix his broken legs, well can he go to the future with his portal gun? and did it run out or was he lying so they would have to go through customs and it would be more entertaining?

In the new season 3 sneak peek Rick broke down in fear because he was afraid he almost died. He said "It was pure luck, I was not in control of that situation" or something of that nature. He doesn't know he's in a show if that is the real conspiracy. But RIck is not the God of his universe. He's just as vulnerable as anyone else, he just hides it through his intelligence and vast knowledge and confidence.

Here is my theory on why Rick is so depressed,
Assuming he knows he is being watched, then he knows that if he is imprisioned on the universe he is in right now, it does not matter cause WE the watchers can just follow another Rick and Morty leaving that one behind -
Maybe pollution is powering our higher universe and if humanity decides to go green to save earth they will come and kill us all
