"Revelation 15x70" Giant binoculars review
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
I recently acquired a pair of Revelation 15x70 binoculars from TelescopeHouse to use in addition with my Dobsonian telescope. With their large aperture and wide field of view, big open star clusters, asterisms, nebula and many other objects look breath taking! For around £63 you can't go wrong with these binoculars and they would make the perfect addition to an astronomers optic collection - or a perfect gift to introduce beginners into the hobby! These binoculars where bought from: http://www.telescopehouse.com/acatalog/copy_of_Revelation_15x70_Binocular_Special_Offer.html For all the latest astronomy news, pictures and videos visit our website here: www.cosmicfissure.co.uk Music: Killing Time & Variation on Egmont - Kevin Macleod (incompetech) Beyond the stars - Machinimasound Occupy the dance floor - Audionautix

Thanks for a great, honest, useful review. I recently aquired a Horizon 8115 heavy duty tripod for use with a pair of astronomy binoculars but had not decided on which pair to go for. At the price (now £50 from Amazon) I've taken the plunge with these 15x70's. Hope to get a telescope at some point, but I really want to get to know the night sky first. You review has helped me decide - cheers! Funny to think the tripod costs more than the binoculars :)

hm i have skakura 20x180 ,this binoculars 15x70 looks like mine.

The plastic tripod adapter is definitely over matched by these binos and regular camera tripods are just too short and light. Find a metal tripod adapter, or make one with some angle and 1/4-20 screws. Shop around on ebay for a used tripod that will extend to at least 7'. That allows you to get under the binos and get about 50 degrees of elevation. That being said, maybe the best tripod is an air mattress. Just lie down and hand hold them. You're not as mobile, but it is pretty comfortable.

No problem my friend, once you get the hang of it it's easy! If there are any other questions, please comment!

Thanks you so much, man. I'm starting to get the hang of it - I'm new to this stuff. But you are really helpful and your response helped me out. So again, cheers :)

As long as the binoculars are kept with the lens caps on and in their carrying bag dust should not be a problem, even in dusty conditions. I wouldn't worry at all about cleaning them for quite a while, but if you feel you have to - you can use special lens brushes/pens to clean them with.
-
First you need to adjust the left eyepiece with the right lens capped by focusing using the big dial in the middle of the binoculars, to get the most crisp image possible. After the left eyepiece is focused, then adjust the diopter setting on the right eyepiece until the view is similar to the left one, it's never a perfect match for some reason. I suggest focusing on the moon or a bright star. And yes, its best not to try and clean them as it probably will disturb the lens coatings.
-
... What should I use then. Because I have a daily build up of light dust in the air where I live. Would dust be a problem, only when I'm actually using them though and not storing them?

After watching your review, I brought these binoculars and received them today. I think the binoculars are great but I always feel as if the right eye peice is going blury as I go from object to object. The right eye peice is rotatable, where as the left isn't. It talked about it in the instructions but I didn't really get it. Could you just explain it a little bit please? And one other thing. You said you recommend not using the microfiber cloth. If it comes down to cleaning it...

Thank you for your response. I've liked and subscribed. We're aren't the only ones on this planet. That's for sure

You can download the free planetarium software Stellarium which will show you what the night sky will look like at your location and curernt time.It will highlight bright objects for you to view!
-
Yes! But only with the outline of the planet Saturn, to see more detail such as the Cassini division a telescope and high magnification would be required
-
How do you know where to look in the sky to see the objects you stated in the video?
-
Can you see the rings of Saturn with these binoculars?

I think the music makes the reviews less boring especially if it is a long video such as this, if other YouTubers want to add/leave out a background theme it's up to them. Finding royalty free soundtracks that fit with the content isn't as easy as it sounds...

Damn! I had faith in you after watching your Dobsonian video. What's with the awful music you added here. Everybody is putting music onto their videos. It's so unnecessary and only dumbs down the article. Now it's creeping into astronomy equipment reviews. I couldn't watch this. Sorry.
