About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Chris J. Isham, is a theoretical physicist at Imperial College London and was dubbed "Britain's greatest quantum gravity expert." by Paul Davies. And here in, discusses some of the views he holds and fields he has worked in such as Loop quantum gravity, quantum cosmology and the philosophy of mathematics and classical physics.

A desperate attempt to save religious viewpoints in an age of science.

(Shakes head) Yeah, back to school for you young man. College now or still high school? You and Nebrin are what, the exact same age. Nice.
-
Yeah, it could mean those things. What's your point?

How do we know those particles are materially real, rather than just looking materially real? Like if you saw particles in a dream that looked materially real and did science and found they looked like quarks and leptons would that make them materially real? We can't just attach the label "particles" to them and then define particles as "material" and then conclude that the world must be material because it's made of particles which we have presupposed are material. That's circular reasoning.

"How is idealism clearly false?" The evidence from all of science. Ever heard of an atom, or quark or lepton or stars? These are physical substances, not ideas. Ever heard of the standard model of PARTICLE physics? Hence idealism is clearly false. All of science attests to it. Stop denying Science Raatzy.

How is idealism clearly false? And btw, idealism doesn't require Orch-OR to work. It can also work on the Copenhagen/Orthodox and information-theoretic interpretations. BTW Orch-OR has not been discredited -just a strawman of it. I'm actually a naturalist btw, just not a physicalist. Panentheism is the logical conclusion of science & philosophy, and Christianity is the logical conclusion of Neoplatonist panentheism. As for "the occult," I'm not sure you understand what that's really all about.

Well, idealism is clearly false, so we can throw out the Bishop Berkeley nonsense, and ORCH-OR is severely discredited and has been refuted, so your paradigm is false as I always knew. Once again, as always, we must reject Christianity, the occult, and Panantheism, and embrace Naturalism and the physical being fundamental.

For the same reason as my universal Orch-OR argument. The reason Isham gives for why you can't treat the whole universe instrumentally is that you are part of the universe. Ergo there is no separate "outside observer," unless of course the observer is outside but not separate. Ie. the observation of the whole universe is an act of introspection of a larger mind beyond space-time! In other words, Bishop Berkeley!

The only way it can make sense to apply quantum mechanics to the whole universe is if monistic idealism is true.
