I reviewed C.S. Lewis's "Out Of The Silent Planet", the first in his space trilogy. Book 11 out of 50. Thanks for watching!

Did u enjoy that hideous strength? I found that my favourite in the series was out of the silent planet. Perelandra was also interesting, but I'm finding hideous strength hard to get through.. -
I like turtles.

You gave a background for the book and author but didn't really elaborate on how profound his religious observations were. His ability to articulate the logical outworking of Weston's humanism and Ransom's views was the real strength of this novel.

That quote, "...and none of them allegorical" -- Lewis likely wrote this 'cause he knew JRRT had no use for allegory. Tolkien wrote this bit about disliking allegory in his preface to LotR, saying that he preferred history, either true or feigned. He was reacting to CSL writing allegory for 3 of his 7 Narnia books (LWW, MN, LB), a series JRRT was not keen on.

Glad you're enjoying it so much! It's certainly different from the Narnia series, although I'm unfamiliar with his works as a whole so I'm not sure I could say I hear a difference in voice. A lot of people have told me "That Hideous Strength" is the best...I'm still only halfway through "Perelandra" so we'll see when I get there. And feel free to use that spaghetti metaphor ;]

I started OotSP recently and couldn't put it down. Now, in the middle of "That Hideous Strength", I have to say the whole trilogy is one of Lewis's best works and so different from anything else he's written that it's easy to get involved in the details and characters and I forget it's him writing. It doesn't have his usual recognizable voice, which seems to add to the level of realism. (On a side note, as an actor who regularly talks to the camera, I'll be borrowing that spaghetti metaphor)
