Our 960 Watt RV Solar Install: A Step-By-Step Guide
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
More details and tips from our RV solar installation on our site: http://www.gonewiththewynns.com/rv-solar-install-guide An (almost) step-by-step guide to the install of our 960 watt solar kit. We had the install done at the Fleetwood Factory Service Center and they allowed us to film the entire thing. The idea of this video is simply to give you the information so you can make sure the install is done properly by the RV solar installer (or yourself if you go the DIY route). For those of you with an "eagle eye" you may notice the install was completed 2 days before our 700ah lithium battery bank was installed. Enjoy our vids? a lot of incomplete and missing vital information here ........... also you paid someone else to do the install , yet you make it seem at the beginning that this was something you actually did ............ anyone can throw money at something , it takes skill and talent to actually do the work properly and have things work as intended .

hi how to buy total solar kit.
-
Nice work you doing. I have few questions
(1) I used a 12 AWG cable for connecting my solar pannel to my charge controller?
Can I use that same 12 AWG cable for connecting my charge controller to my 200AH battery?
(2) what size circuit breaker in amps can I use on the positive side between my battery (200AH) and my inverter (1500 watt pure sine wave) -
This gay guy camps with his mom, how sweet!

Wait, who is this woman ? PARIS HILTON's mother? ???? what a look alike

I am amazed that you can put 6 panels in series and not go over the voltage limits for the Outback FX80. I guess that is why you check the specs on the panels. :-P That does explain the small wire for a 100W bank.

Men don't need instruction manuals .

4.5w per cell is very optimistic. But awesome install !

Hey guys great video! I was extra cool since I live in Ridgecrest Ca. We love going out to the Trona Pinnacles. I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction on where to buy a kit for a custom teardrop trailer. Or where I can go to read up on what I would need to add solor power to my camper.
thanks in advance! :) -
What kind of heatsink issues have you guys run into? Any loss of DC volts due to the heat and 20' of cable? Great video.

great job on sharing this video very helpful and its so amazing.. keep posting...

Great job.. Thanks

The cringe is strong with this one

PUtting it all in the roof means that you have to always put your RV in the sun. I prefer something that is more portable. This way I can park my vehicle in the shade while I place the Solar panels in the sun.

Hay yall, I enjoyed your video, my beloved wife and I are livin in camper. I'm just getting over stage four throat cancer. My question is how much can you run ( stuff ) in your rv. Also what was cost of your unit.? Thanks for your time maybe see yall on the road.

If I'm going to get a 600watt set up how much would that run me back?

Just a few finer points of going solar:
-The wires from the charge controller to the batteries need to be as heavy and short as possible, without the controller actually being in the same compartment as the batteries (major fire hazard). Six feet or more is unacceptable. The reason being is that more than a 1% voltage drop may prevent the batteries from being fully topped off, which will lead to shorter battery life and running out of juice too soon everyday. The only real way to tell if they are getting fully topped off is with a hydrometer (about $5 from an auto parts store). You also need to look up what voltage YOUR batteries need, as each battery company is a little different. Get this right and you will avoid a lot of problems.
-Related to charging voltage, some cheaper inverters will shut down if the battery voltage while charging is too high. Trojan batteries need 14.8 volts to properly charge, but some inverters shut down at 15 volts (or less, even though the specs say 15). Higher quality inverters like Magnum have a 17 volt upper limit, so no problem there. So if you have a 15 volt limit on your inverter and you complain to the dealer about it shutting down during the day while charging, they will probably lower your charging voltage to keep you happy, but of course then your batteries will suffer and die sooner. So either don't use the inverter during the day, or get a better one with a higher input voltage limit. Undercharging your batteries is NOT the answer. -
