12. That dark area is SLA (Super Light Ablator) I used to apply that and trim it to shape at the Michoud Assembly Facility.   The brown foam too.

Is there anyone who can tell me why when the shuttle or other launch vehicles reach a certain altitude (or speed, I don't know which, but I'm assuming altitude) the video gets all staticy and cuts out? My guess is it has something to do with the more intense radiation at higher altitudes, but that's a straight up guess. Anyone got the actual info?
