Off Grid Solar A/C System | 100 Amp Solar Panel 100AH Battery Setup
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
This is just a high level overview of my off-grid solar panel setup running a window air conditioner (4.1 amp). The battery is 100AH and the solar panel generates 100W of power to recharge. 100AH capacity divided by a 5 amp load will equal a 20 hour running time before the battery would need to be charged. Ideally, you would want 8 of these batteries run in a series to safely power this system for years day in and out but in a pinch, this rig works perfectly for me. I will post a followup after hard use.

why would people want to go off grid anyway? here where i live... i pay 20 dollars and i get 100 kwh electricity without the need of maintenance...not worrying of buying battery... Solar Panel and battery and etc... are expensive to run and only get small amount of electricity

try a couple fans, one in, one out, that set up will help because drawing 5amps for a 50ah usable batterycapacity it will last 9 hours a day and the battery wont last long unless you set a timer for a couple hours although you didnt say how much of a draw for the inverter.

If you treat chickens that good, you have to be the perfect father and husband!! Anyway nice setup!

I have 12V 70ah battery , so what is the size of solar that I can use with solar50W?

theres losses your not counting, the main one is not 100% sun. your panel may say 100 watts but under load is probably closer to 60 Watts. I see shade on the panel thats not good at all. The second is the inverter. Run four of those panels and you might get by for most of the day and you'll need to recharge the next day. Get rid of the air conditioner. try running a 50 gallon drum with vapor nozzles for the hottest part of the day. a pump on the inverter spraying into the coop maybe 4-5 nozzles. way better energy then that air conditioner.

what is the reference of this LG cooling system?

Any update? I'd say 2 hours at most to full drain. You lose about 10% efficiency just from the AC inverter. I can tell you I connected a 1000 watt inverter to my truck battery and even with alternator running I can't get tools that draw more than 500 watts to run without tripping the fuse. I'm hoping your exact setup would allow me to draw about 120 watts continuous for about 6 hours a day. BTW, I know that is deep cycle and not a car battery, but does it have a CCA rating, can it b used in my truck for starting and running power tools?

So the amps it's drawing from the "wall" so to speak is 4 amps but the amperage being drawn from the battery is much higher. So the inverter is actually drawing 45 amps @ 12v. So expect that battery to only safely last 1.5 hours running that AC.

Go to Inplix if you'd like to build it yourself.

lol he's obviously joking guys!

hook up with batteries.

You're doing good... (I'm off grid)... Maybe more space for the chickens but no A/C is necessary. Just my opinion.

Wait if you have a total of 100ah and you use 4.1 amps an hour. 100/4.1 = about 23 hours right?

Hey man great video.. i'm thinking about buying a white chevy express cargo van to live iin momentarily while i'm here in florida. but one of my biggest problem is the damn heat.. i don't want to have to turn the truck on just to get cool... so i have plans to rig one of these up. i like how your set up is nice and clean... well wrapped up with tie straps and not all over the place like some other videos i've seen...great video man.

good video for the solar panel..but seriously ur going to run a ac for ur chickens ?? Its hotter than crap in texas and our chicken all run lose almost everywhere and never have they needed a ac lol
-
I think you will only be able to run it for 1 hr because 4 amps a/c equates to 40 amps d/c since you only want to discharge your battery 30% 1 hr would be absolute max. you need way more batteries to run that ac
-
I wouldnt run that item more than 4/5 hours because you dont really want to deplete the battery more than 75% to get your monies worth out of the battery. Check battery university website ;) good video though. Thanks for sharing
