NYPD Band playing Space Battleship Yamato theme in Macy's Parade (25 Nov 2010)
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
The 2010 Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade had a weird bonus for American anime fans. The New York police department marching band appeared playing the opening theme from Space Battleship Yamato (Despite the NBC talking heads' claim that it's "Yamamoto.") This resulted in nationwide facefaults and cries of "What the hell?!"

Yamamoto? Technically still a name in the show, but not the title....
-
What irritates me the most, is that they talked over it.
-
What? It's not the American's fault the Japanese are so good at composing awesome themes for their shows.
-
would've been nice to actually hear it.

Farewell, Earth, the ship that is departing is
The Space Battleship Yamato
It departs now to Iskandar,
at the end of the cosmos, bearing its fate.
"We will come back, no matter what it takes"
Answer with a smile to the waving people
Going far from the Galaxy towards Iskandar
A faint gleam of hope
The Space Battleship Yamato -
needs more Isao Sasaki

Shyt, I would've skipped family a dinner to see this.

The moron said "ship yamamoto"! epic fail. Just a 10' briefing about manga and anime ...too hard to do. Idiot!

Now...what was that I just heard? I came to hear music, but hears a guy that don't pause long enough to recognize the music piece? And what is "Space Battleship Yamamoto"? Sounds like the part that goes into "Uchuu senkan Yamato" but I could be wrong. Anyway, if anyone in that NYPD band sees this comment, I am happy that you tried the wonderful piece.

We ALL wish for Matt Lauer to shut up.

I wish Matt Lauer had shut up so I could actually hear it.
-

-

-
Space Battleship Yamamoto. Yet they say Pearl Harbor was unjustified...
-

-
"Space Battleship YAMAMOTO" ? It sounds like "それゆけ! 宇宙戦艦ヤマモト・ヨーコ" :-)
-
Nice touch by NYPD actually.
-
Roker - epic fail.
-
it,s Yamato not Yamamoto

That's pretty cool that's what they choose to play! Odd that they feel the NY police only deserve about 5 seconds of air time. You can hear where, in the US version they would have sung 'Our Star Blazers"
