**Watch in HD for best viewing.** Audio starts around 49 seconds in. Please Like and Share this video. Let me know what you think by posting a comment. Also note, rather than re-rendering, delta Alt should be ft/s not ft/s^2. Added Telemetry and multi-views along with flight path and captions to Columbia's unsuccessful re-entry. Still amazed at how fast the shuttle is travelling during re-entry. Share/subscribe if you like! Space Shuttle Columbia mission STS-107 crashed during re-entry around 9am EST on February 1 2003 God bless the crew which consisted of Colonel Rick Husband (USAF), Commander William (Willie) McCool (USN), Lieutenant Colonel Michael P. Anderson (USAF), Dr. Kalpana Chawla, Captain David Brown (USN), Commander Dr. Laurel Clark (USN) and Colonel Ilan Ramon (Israel Air Force).

Incredible. 13,000 MPH at 200,000 ft altitude
Blackbird was 2,531 at 80,000 ft altitude
Both technologies created in the 60's and 70's
We should be able to easily create fighters capable of traveling mach 6 at 100,00 ft. -
Thanks for this timeline

good stuff

maybe a dumb question suppose a planned landing in california edwards afb could've saved the shuttle since it broke apart over texas
-
I wonder at which point during this video they realised something had gone wrong to the point of realising the disaster.
-
Они совсем не волновались. Они не думали что погибнут.
-
I'm glad you didn't subtitle "feeling the heat" because the astronauts never said that. It was "and uh hou" as in Houston
-
thanks for posting this. I was one of the Engineers after the accident handling the tank video downlinking on thelast of the missions after the Hubble repair.
-
I sometimes still wonder whether or not Houston knew what was happening to the vehicle as it was re-entering, but knew that they were already committed and that there was nothing more they could do but watch.

I would like to know what the abbreviations stand for.. I can guess MCC means Mission Control Center... Flight means the shuttle crew? ... It's confusing as to who is talking to who sometimes. example.. MCC-Flight: Thank you ... means Mission control center said to the flight crew (captain) "Thank you"? Or what? ...
MCC = who ?
GNC = who?
Flight = who?
GC = who?
It's a bit confusing. -
In the onboard video taken during re-entry, the crew seem unworried ... Surely they were aware of the problem the craft was having... or was the onboard video of the crew before the problem was known by anyone?

To your question / comment at 3:58. the shuttle is no glider by any means at all. At this point in its flight its falling but it is moving so fast it has the illusion of controlled atmospheric flight. Now keep in mind the shuttle has a hard time maintaining altitude when it is in normal atmospheric flight let alone on the very thin outer reaches of the atmosphere. so it is still falling at an accelerated rate due to the point that gravity is not a set speed but a acceleration force.
Love the video. its really cool -
Good job for the split screens.
U only have a 37s desynchro with ground video (Apache wiew). The breaking begins at 14.00.29 Zulu time from military Apache, when this video shows it beginning at 13.59.52... There seem to be 45s delay between data loss and Shuttle breaking apart, so a little bit more tha what is suggested here. -
remember when nasa had camera's that follow the craft rather than guessing it's possible position.
-
They fake audio after 13;56 as a huge piece of the craft burns off...
-
Just found this, very impressive
-
appreciate your work on this! Well done!
-
Very well done! Shows everything in clear detail and makes it easier to understand exactly what happened.
-
A great piece of presentation which will make a lot of people understand the last moment of this tragedy.
Many thanks to a great job -
very well done.. I agree, it is among the best presentations.. a lot of guess work on the part of the viewer has been removed and that is greatly appreciated.. thanks for doing this!
