Never Heard Before! Shocking Final Words Of Space Shuttle Columbia STS-107!
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
The tragedy of February 1, 2003 will not be soon forgotten. Many have speculated about video existing during the final break up of Columbia while others wonder what the crew was going through. I wondered on to the Freedom Of Information Act Request section of a NASA web site relating the the Columbia Accident and have, unfortunately found what does sound like a panic-stricken transmission. A short "yelp" followed by "popping" noises and then the panic filled transmission. More popping and static ending with a transmission from Rick Husband, "And Houston..." Even more disturbing is the part not heard on other NASA videos that the crew reported flight control problems. Since this is audio on a very particular audio loop in mission control, it does not contain the absolute final message, "Roger, uhhhh..." The original 58 minute audio loop (shown by the GMT stamp on intro) is no longer available from NASA but they did have this condensed version which is othwerwise uncut or altered except for volume and the removal of the last 15 or so seconds which has nothing on it at all. Help is appreciated if anybody can understand the panic transmission. I would like to get it annotated for all. Also check out these other videos on Space Shuttle Challenger. Anyone make out the female voice at 1:50??

in 1986 3 of the astronauts were alive until they hit the water

I'm just sad

The issues that made the retirement of the Shuttle necessary:
1. 51L (Challenger, negligent handling of SRB joint issues)
2. STD-27 (nonchalant attitude of clear tile damage from debris hit during launch)
3. STS-107 ( criminally negligent handling of wing damage)
In a nutshell, NASA does not have the safety culture or the intelligence to handle a system with so many ways to bite them in the ass. Orion is much simpler, although I have a feeling that even with a LES, a 51L style SRB failure would probably still kill the crew. No way a LES could fire quickly enough. -
Had they immediately found out there was damage (like right after getting to orbit) they could have rationed their consumables and stretched them at least 30 days. More than enough time to get Atlantis out to the pad and ready. Columbia had the Extended Mission Pallet for fuel cell fuel and oxidizer.
What NASA did was criminally negligent and there are a lot of upper management types that should count their lucky stars that they don't have a few felonies on their records. They not only did nothing to find out what the condition of the wing was, they actively tried to obstruct anyone else from even asking what the condition of the wing was. They just didn't give a shat. -
NASA blew its money on Diversity and multicultural programs. It's risky enough with an crew of white men. With "diversity" on board, there's too many weak links.

The NASA space program simply never had the necessary funding to ensure that all necessary safety precautions were taken. Instead, a bunch of bean-counting pencil-necks have cut back more and more of NASA's budget. None of this would have been necessary if we were taxing multi billion dollar fortunes at the fair and adequate rate of 60-75%. The fact that a total DICKHEAD like Donald Drumpf will soon be reducing the tax rate of said billionaires is why we will continue to have a NASA budget that is far, FAR less than what existed during the Kennedy administration. Of course, that was back when we actually INVESTED in science, instead of allowing demagogues to buy solid gold toilets for their yachts.

if the video is stopped. at 2:58 there is a yellowish glow almost as if it's been shot buy some kind of beam

Why doesnt nasa have a contengcy plan b always at the ready when we have american pilots and tech in outerspace.... like another rocket fueled and ready and all thats required for a rescue waiting on standby so the challenger and its crew could have aborted rentry, adjusted their angle and bounced off earths ozone and repaired the damaged heat sheild on wing in outer orbit then attempt rentry again? I mean theres alot of shit at stake here for us americans. Not only 7 lives that of which nasa is responsible for... but all the tech and hours spents making and preparing a mission of this magnitude, coming back on the return leg with data and knowledge the world will benefit from, also nasa, and usa reputation not to mention.... all of that said here definetly warrents a plan b contengincy on standyby ready for deployment within hours notice in the event of a problem for nit just nasa but any human life within the bounds of our reach in outer space... kinda like a 911 but only for astronauts....
Anybody in agreement with this??? I mean why even go threw all the effort if were not even gonna ensure the best possible chance for recovering all our intrests to start with....? Very sad what happened and an ugly chapter in mankinds growth in exploring our known universe..... would it have been soo much better if the exact opposite events took place on the day of the challengers return mission to earth..? Rip challenger and crew...... -
