I would love to have my mom and Neil talk in the same room

Neil deGrasse Tyson in this video is not being intellectually honest. He is absolutely telling people what to think. A correct understanding of the Bible and good science will always come to the same conclusions because both require people to prove all things, test, Seek and find.
There are people on both sides who for many reason do not understand what they are talking about or have an agenda. Assumption in not Science and reading the Bible only in English without researching the Languages it was written original in will cause many inaccurate conclusions.
Science has proven Carl Sagan wrong, The Universe had a beginning.
To say Faith and reason are not reconcilable is ridiculous!
I would simply ask Mr. Tyson how does he explain his faith in his reasoning that Faith and Reason are not compatible.
You see in his mind Faith in believing in what the Bible says, means accepting it without any evidence. In the Bible Faith is built upon proving what is true, testing what you believe and that leads to a strong confidence that what you understand is reliable. That produces strong faith.
The Bible requires much study, which from Mr. Tyson's comments he has not done. The Book of Revelation is a highly symbolic Book that to understand correctly requires you to read the Old Testament Symbolisms.
One last thing I would point out about Mr. Tyson's mocking comments about "a Man in the clouds" and making observations about the physical universe based on Bible passages lead people to get the wrong answers.
That is wrong. I'll give an example. In the Bible, it clearly says there are three expanses (3 Heavens). No, the Creator does not live in the clouds. He dwells in the third Heaven.
So, there is our sky, the first heaven, outer space the second heaven, and finally the heaven of Heavens where our creator who alone is Immortal and who dwells in unapproachable light is.
The first sentence in the Bible tells you he made the Heavens (Shamayim) and the earth.
The Ancient people who passed on this knowledge from our creator, of the physical universe knew this long before the scientific instruments we have today were invented.
Yes, Mr. Tyson is telling you what to think through ridicule, and lies. -
Do not let this impostor spread his disinformation. The word of the Bible is truth and this nonsense should be banned from all schools.

The One Question that destroys Religion: What do you DO in Heaven?
It totally stumps them!
They don't have a clue! Do they want to say we work? So what kind of work does God have you do? God who has everything, can conjure up an army of billions of robots with just a thought?
So then they are left with doing nothing. Lazy bums snoring away eternity? Yes, God's Grand Plan - Pork Futures?
What makes me sad is that such questions have never been asked. Ever!
Maybe Theists are not the only ones brainwashed by religion -
God isn't the mysteries of the universe, god is the laws of physics.

Wait, the sun of 1 of 100 billion other suns? I have a horrible understanding of this stuff

Scientists say that the universe is
made of energy, and that it originated
from energy. But this is not so. An electric
current does not flow just because
there is potential energy. Electricity is
generated through action. And before
action, there must be a plus and a minus
– that is, a subject partner and an object
partner.
Action cannot occur by itself; therefore
a subject partner and an object partner
are necessary.
Considering all the above, action
requires a plus and a minus, and that
action then generates electricity. Thus,
in the same way, energy arises only
through the interaction of subject and
object partners. Hence, the universe did
not originate from energy, as today’s scientists
say it did. Action comes first, not
energy. -
I feel like neil deGrasse Tyson is talking to a five year old . I wish i can watch a bunch of astrophysicist's in their laboratories engaged in their own element shooting the shit . Then watch an old man trying to be an intellect asking mediocre questions , without fully understanding whats being said .

I think Neil is brilliant

With all due respect, Dr. Tyson is inaccurate to state that any time believers construct a nuanced, metaphorical interpretation of scripture, it is a response to scientific advancement. See Philo (1st CA), Origen (3rd CA), Augustine (4th CA), just to name a few. Also, the literal interpretation of th Book of Revelation is MOSTLY an 18th-21st CA phenomenon.
I LOVE listening to Dr. Tyson's discussions of physics, etc; however, not so much his discussions of religion. He has a VERY limited understanding of Christian theology and philosophy. He responds to fundamentalists in a very similar way he responds to "enlightened Christians." -
"if we believe in science and religion at the same time, they must agree with each other, if they don't then one of them is wrong"-Muslims YouTube commentator

God is an ever receding pocket of scientific ignorance.

I fucking love Neil D.T.! My personal hero...

Too funny. Most of you indoctrinated idgits don't understand the first thing about real science, so you're led about like monkeys on a chain. Religion furnishes the conceptual framework for true science. Tyson's god science is an invention based on this framework, and without religion, science would not exist. Why? Because modern science arose out of Western civilization. It's a thought process which owes its existence to the Christian faith. The scientific enterprise is founded upon certain assumptions which can't be proven scientifically. These assumptions are however guaranteed by the Christian worldview. For example - the laws of logic, the orderly nature of the external world, the reliability of our cognitive faculties, and the objectivity of the moral values used in science are all needed for science to work. Science could not exist without these assumptions, and yet these assumptions cannot be proven scientifically! It then begs the question, so why does Tyson believe in science? After all, the framework of science is based on philosophical assumptions which are part and parcel of a Christian worldview! So, before you crap on religion and make science itself your god, realize your scientific approach would not even exist without religion, and in particular, Christianity itself! Tyson needs to go back and re-examine his science vs. religion point of view which is a fabrication of the late 20th century naturalism crowd. Science and religion are allies, not enemies. If Tyson understood this, he'd have more answers to the questions he asks about the universe, instead of coming back time and again admitting he and his colleagues were wrong.

Neil Disgrace Tyson is just a Hollywood storyteller, like Bill Nye and all the other buffoons, doing nothing else but regurgitating the Jesuit-Jewish pseudo-science from 3rd grade, brainwashing the gullible public. All he spouts are unsubstantiated assumptions and speculations. Science is religion. You have to believe the unproven hypothesis and theories. There is no space, no gravity and the earth is not a spinning globe. We live inside an Electromagnetic Universe on a flat, leveled plane. The North Pole is the Anode of negative charge and the Antarctic Circle is the cathode or negative charge while the salt water in the ocean provides for the conductivity of electrolytes. The air is the ether.

[13:56] doctoring 'personal' dis-eases as medical names, conditions, and events, is popular among practicing physicians whose livelihood depends on the quick sell, but, the history of such as Dr. Tyson mentions lies in archaic Sumerian time far anterior to the doctors' Greek and Roman days, back when demons, some doing bio-terrorism, ran amuck far-and-wide....

Why a remake of Sagan's Cosmos when science has advanced significantly in half a century, or hasn't it—technology is not the science it depends upon.

Why does dark matter have to be millions of light years away in space. Where is the dark matter on Earth, or floating around in orbit around our Sun?
