“I’m not here to represent the United States government’s interests. I’m not here to defend it, nor am I here to criticize it. That’s not what I do. I’m a businessman.” - Rex Tillermon, Trump's selection for Secretary of State.

Chayefsky was a friggin' PROPHET, and Beatty should've gotten the Oscar for this performance.

Except that businesses go bankrupt and that businesses are based in Nation States. Sure they have influence in proportion to their power,in all forms, but other groups also have power in the the social and political sence as well as the economic The U.S.A used to be a world leader in Electronics busineses, then this power and influence shifted to Japan and other asian nations. Now it has shifted to South Korea. Same with the automobile business and the energy business. Pro Choice activists who don't represent any particular business interests also have power,as do feminist groups......etc.etc.

I love this movie! every once in a while Hollywood slips up and give us the truth.

I know everybody likes to talk about prophetic this film is and all that, and yeah, sure it is but can we just talk about how well crafted this movie is? I mean the way it weaves in and out from being hardline commentary to full-on satire, being deathly serious one minute and then operatic and over the top the next. It juggles it's tone so well and this scene perfectly exemplifies it. I love how Beatty goes from booming voice of angry elder god to dropping it completely down to Earth for "Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale?"

A cross between Ayn rand and Dostoevky. Sounds like the eternal childhood I am continually offered as a wheelchair user by thermometer wielding diane Christensen types
