The show where we talk about myths from around the globe. For todays show, were gonna talk about one of my favorites, the myths of the Maori. The maori are a tribe in new Zealand. They probably arrived there around 1270 AD, but the christian take over in the 1600's wiped out a lot of their culture and a lot of their myths died with it, making it easy for christianity to spread throughout the population. But a few stories survived in oral traditions as well as archeological finds representing the gods and their stories lets begin from the beginning.

Your pronunciation of Māori is so cringe. Sigh Typical foreign Pākehā.
-
That Maui legend at the end... My view to Disney's Moana has changed... Kinda. I guess it goes the same as all stories original tales. Settles it. XD
-
Of course the pronunciation will be off because he puts the words through an English language filter. Its not his fault for not being raised on te reo maori nor knows the pronunciation.
All in all a great video. But the Maori get really anal when you can't say their words how they say their words. -
if you can say the word "mouldly" like the shit that's normally in a bathroom shower wall/corners.
then you can say Maori it's basically the same as saying mouldly but it's Maori instead of mouldy -
you got to learn how to say maori
-
Not mayori its te reo maori
-
Thank you for sharing our Maori indigenous culture to the world. Despite the pronunciations I thought you did pretty good with these names and words because I've even heard some Maori people pronounce Maori words dreadfully! Thank you so much for the share!
-
your pronunciation is REALLY off but most of this was accurate
-
Stupid fuck this is not how these storys go cos ill know if i come from New Zealand stop saying Maori if you cant say it properly you ideot
-
The Maori people are not one tribe we are made up of multiple tribes if the were true we would all be one big family
-
that's not how you say it
-
Seriously if you're going to do a video based on the myths of a culture, do some research on the pronunciation of the language of that culture! This is terrible, and all it would have taken was some quick googling :/
-
wow he pronounced it wrong but still mean..
-
can you say Māori words right there really easy to say
-
korero I te maori I te tika kei te pukuriri kia koe

just an update Tāne created Hine Ahu One the first woman whose name roughly translates to Woman made of clay, they have a daughter named Hine Titama, or who you simply call hine who then becomes the goddesss of death, not in a negative way though. Some of these stories are different throughout maoridom, Each tribe has their own interpretation of these stories. I have not heard the story of Tu devouring Tane before and am not sure if it is actually a Myth or just a made up story. Maui is a well known person throughout new zealand though he is mostly part of the east coasts Myhts.
Also i wouldnt say the bird laughed at the silliness of what maui did, some say that the tirairaka is just as mischievous as maui is, due to this it laughed, some say that the bird was one of "hine" pets, and cried out to alarm hine what maui was doing and saying this again it all depends on what māori tribe you are from. -
