DRAMA is the name of the game apparently. Even our teachers are all up in it. Lol yeah the content is seriously all just for state board and all about how fast we are, my teacher told me to be fast, not work on the technique. I'm in my senior year this year now and holy shit am I happy that this is the last year. Hopefully with new teachers I'll learn more. but the drama, this past year is so ridiculous that we had to stop learning time to have a "let's deal with this bs" time. I'm glad I'm personally not involved in drama, but oh man it made things hard, which is ok. Just these girls try to get each other kicked out of the program. Once again I'm happy it's my last year, but after graduation I'm definitely continuing my education at the top salon around here, because so far I learned how to set up a manicure, do a perm, and sort of learned a haircut. Good luck to anyone else out there! I didn't want to be all negative, it's just my experience so far, I hope it will change c:

i feel like this is exactly why jobs want you to be experienced in the role, schools are just handing out qualifications and licenses before people are ready. it's exactly the same here in the UK
-
does a community school actually teach you hair more than a private or tech school? what is the difference between private and community?
-
Hey there I'm Joel can I set a time with you for a haircut
-
how do you keep your hair brass free and bright?
-
I REMEMBER WHEN YOU LOOKED LIKE THIS AWH HI

Did you happen to go to CCVTS?
-

YES YES YES 10000% YESSS I just got my license from a vocational school, and this is literally everything that happened to me. It's crazy. It's an really robbing us of actual knowledge. Ugh this frustrated the shit outta me.

Your plugs are so fucking impressive! Jealous!

Did you jot have clients coming in you could work on? At my school in ky after you reach 300 hours you go out on the floor and from then on you literally get called for appointments and get a client then take them to their chair and continue on with the appointment and you do that till you reach 1800 hours then you graduate. Just curious

I completely agree on not learning anything in school. everything was for the exam.

I went to school at an Empire Beauty School and it was absolute hell. I felt extremely underwhelmed by the education I was recieving, I felt like I wasnt learning anything I didnt know already, and I was tired of sitting on the floor coloring poster boards with markers and being charged tuition to waste my time.
I was constantly insulted by my advisors, was given very limited creative space, and ultimately was spoken to like a child who didnt know a fart from their asshole.
I left...and the only thing I regret is that I wasnt given the tools or experience that I was eager for. -
Oh your classmates probably wanted to learn how to do their own hair, not make it a career

I know this is an old video, but I did really like it. I'm a sophomore right now and I'm planning on going to cosmetology school, but my school doesn't offer it until Senior year. But Cosmetology has been something that I've been interested in for such a long time. I just can't imagine doing anything else in life. I'm actually planning on moving to Chicago because I live in a little town in Indiana where it going to be extremely hard to make a career out of Cosmetology. I'm really excited though. I already do hair and makeup on my friends and I usually do my own hair, so I ave a little bit of experience already. I have been trying to get as much experience and knowledge before I even start collage.

omg this honestly scares me. I'm a junior right now, graduating may 2016. I've been planning on going to cosmetology school for hair styling, etc. but I live in a small town in Louisiana, so I'm scared my school will be like this! i have experience with dying my hair for years, & cutting my own hair, but nothing even close to professional! :(

I am currently going to paul Mitchell in Sherman oaks and wow I can't believe we all complain about our school ... You're school sounds like a nightmare no offense we get clients everyday and it's always super busy with clients so half the day we are taking clients and the other half we are in class one hour of state bored preparations and two hours of specialty classes every week it's different like this week we are learning about texture last week we did color and the week before that was make up and on Saturdays we have no class we just take clients all day long for daytime students it's only one year long night time students finish in two years

Oh my fucking god I thought those were earrings :O whatttt.

Thanks, this really helped me in this area. I live in a completely different state so I'm hoping my experience will be different. Thanks again!
