Both: the new moon and the full moon can be observable during the night and during a day. So, it is even not possible to demonstrate that FAKE heliocentric model correctly according to real life observations!

Error! The language used in teaching science is important-
beginning at the preschool level. The moon does not change shape! More appropriate word choice may be, "The moon looks like it changes shape, but it doesn't. We see different parts of the moon at different times." We see different amounts of light bouncing off the moon. Language for older children-"The moon appears to change shape ..."
Keep explanations for this age group simple--but accurate. These are very abstract concepts.This level of information generally, is inappropriate for preschoolers. Toddlers? Really? -
