50.5. if you sent a ship full of smokers and deprived them of tobacco youd have a mutiny and dead crew in the first 5 days. nicotine withdrawal will make the crew totally mentally useless and emotionally volatile in the first 9 hrs. for heavy smokers, 2 hrs before physical withdrawal sets in. now THAT would be one hell of a game show of survival under the harshest conditions a human can undergo. drug withdrawal in the cold lifeless vaccum of space. totally alone away from any help but their own. a choice of get through it or die. sounds like a great survival reality series. with do or die consequnces. now THAT would be the biggest ratings any show in history before or after would get!!! lol! and I'm sure theres a few imbassiles on earth that would sign right up for it!! lol!!

55:23 - "And so if there were martian organisms that could contaminate the Earth, they've already done so".
That is a VERY dangerous way of thinking. -
IMO Earth is unique, everything else out there is what has helped us being here, its all the building blocks that helped us get here, Bless this fascinating awesome world,

mars is a waste of time...need to look for somewhere else to colonize.

NASA should have been wound up in 1970 - since then it's been an enormously expensive white elephant. It was a political weapon in the first place, and with the moon landing it achieved its purpose and became redundant. Robot space exploration is far more cost effective and the difference can be spent on something worthwhile instead.

I call my Mars Plan, "The Conveyor Belt to Mars". Robotic missions to establish every step in the way towards Mars. Earth orbiting factories, continuous array of support ships going to and from Mars that have habitability for humans traveling around an Earth / Mars track. Lander's and Ascent ships on the surface of Mars at various locations. Once the "automated Habitat portions are up and running. Man follows in large numbers to settle the Red Planet. A "machine" does not need to be buried when it fails to function any longer. It is repaired and continues on with its tasks assigned to it.

Why is there all of this obsession over going to Mars? The lack of a molten Iron core means all of these proposed terraforming ideas are completely useless. How are these smart people so fucking stupid? "Gee, let's leave this young, lush planet for an old, dried up husk." Instead of focusing efforts on going to mars and restarting it as a planet, why not worry about preserving the climate here? I'm not some environment defending nut job. I also understand the desire to explore and learn about another planet, but with this glaringly obvious hole in the plan to be able to make Mars have an atmosphere, why are people still obsessed with this shit? I mean come the fuck on.
