Lenovo Thinkpad x131e chromebook vs samsung S5 550 chromebook
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Comparison between two midrange chromebooks. Two things that I forgot to mention in the video : 1) the Samsung S5 550 is not available anymore via the normal channels 2) the Lenovo has extra space for an internal HDD and also the memory is easily upgradable (up to 8GB maximum) and the battery can be removed. Here are 2 other reviews that might be of interest. Lenovo vs ARM and Lenovo vs S5 500. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJniovvgwCI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InO0b_u6URI

Short answer: haven't had a single glitch during video play on the x131e. Additional info : If you want to thinker then this is the most flexible chromebook available atm. Might even be possible to take the motherboard or the 3G receiver from the fastest "non-chromebook" X131e and transplant it ;-) There are also a bunch of very detailed repair manuals available from Lenovo. Might even be better suitable than the Pixel if you want a dualboot because of the possibility to add a HDD ...

The x131e is currently the second fastest available chromebook (Pixel is faster) and it can actually be gotten very cheap (I got it for less than 180$ on Ebay). It has a better screen and can be very easily serviced and expanded. You can go up to 8G mem and you can even add an extra HDD (I'll have extra 8GB + HDD next week to make sure on that claim). The bad: the weight and to many keys on the keyboard. The ugly:the trackpad (the trackpoint compensates somewhat but you'll hate the trackpad).

I like the dog-drinking-water sound effect midway through the review! On a more serious note, from your review, it appears that the Lenovo has a better ability to play video without glitches and hesitation, correct? Thanks!

you can still find some "new" discontinued 5 550's around, i have one and love it ... thanks for the review, and as long as someone opts for an intel-based chromebook, i think they'll have a good experience ;)
