LAWRENCE KRAUSS AND ROBERT WRIGHT ON PHYSICS, PHILOSOPHY, AND ‘NEW ATHEISM’

November 18, 2015. I thought this should be on you tube, not finding it anywhere i took it upon myself. I was here live. Robert Wright, Visiting Professor of Science and Religion at Union Theological Seminary, interrogates prominent physicist and ‘new atheist’ Lawrence Krauss on the origins of the universe, quantum weirdness, and the limits of scientific knowledge.

Did Krauss really say that he thinks Christopher Hitchens book on religion is a masterpiece? I don't think there is any new atheist book (a low standard to start with) was more slipshod and poorly researched and argued than Christopher's drunken mess. He didn't make one original point.

Lawrence Krauss consistently wriggles off the hook by interrupting and going off on straw man semantic arguments. The trouble is that the questioner lets him get away with it and lets Krauss wind him up. What Lawrence Krauss avoids saying, I think on purpose, is that his 'NOTHING' INCLUDES all the RULES of Quantum Physics PRE-EXISTING in the 'nothing' to explain HOW the universe comes into existence out of 'nothing'. And that my friends is not 'nothing'; it's something. It is only those same RULES that explain THAT and HOW photons come into existence from nothing (which he gives as illustrating how he defines his term, 'nothing'). His argument is circular and disingenuous. If you don't believe or are unsure watch the Isaac Asimov lecture on 'Why is there something rather than nothing'. Here he gets seriously mauled by other physicists and philosophers of physics. The guy here doesn't know enough about physics to deal with Krauss's inconsistencies and games.

Around 47:00 Krauss seems to have lost interest in Wright. But based on body language, I think Wright is bothered by Krauss correcting him. Wright isn't comfortable with being wrong. Wright didn't deserve to have Prof Krauss as a guest!
-
i reckon krauss should go for president... he dodged those questions like a pro. Wright should stop wasting his time debating people with reputations to defend. of course krauss won't give reasoned answers about these subjects, a reasoned answer might disenfranchise his customer base.

This Robert Wright is such a prick.
-
It seems as though Dr. Wright is wholly unprepared for some of the questions/responses posed and given by Dr. Krauss. He also criticizes Dr. Krauss for being overly general and simultaneously accuses Krauss of 'time-wasting' when clarifying imprecise language. I'm not familiar with the work of Robert Wright, but here's to hoping he is more cogent in his writing than in his public speaking. Krauss delivers hammer-blow after hammer-blow to every point made by Dr. Wright. So sad to see a would-be academic going toe-to-toe with a real one only to be intellectually dimembowled; Dr. Krauss, the clear winner.

Hilarious, Wright is keeps saying New Atheist but he proved to be a new apologist. Wright simply can't swallow reason even when he's spoon fed it. Epic fail wannabe.

Anyone who thinks that Krauss had superior debating skills should watch from around 1:02:00 on. He just relentlessly interrupts a guy trying to ask a reasonable question. I thought this pattern was repeated in his discussion with Wright. I would personally be pissed if I had to publicly debate some one like that.
Secondly, I would like to point out that Wright is just as much the intellectual that Krauss is. Just google his name. People here are claiming that he doesn't understand evolution. The dude literally helped coin the term 'evolutionary psychology'; he certainly has a much more nuanced understanding of it than Krauss. -
Robert Wright is such a whiner in the debate setting.
His whining is so annoying. -
34:15 - I don't get it, so I'm going to tell you to get to the point even though you're making it. It makes me look less dumb.
-
How can Wright possibly believe he is intellectually up to the job when he pretty much tried to put words into Krauss's mouth, not to mention taking his book out of context,, deliberately misconstruing his words and then shouting Krauss down for interrupting every time he rightly tried to correct him. Disgusting debating tactics! Wright you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

"Let me finish...let me finish...let me finish..." I wish he would!
-
Robert Wright is a pompous idiot who tries to masquerade as an intellectual. Oh, and by the way Bob, Christianity is not an ethnic group.
I realize, of course, that everyone who tries to defend religious beliefs is going to be playing with only half a deck because such beliefs defy all reason and evidence.
P.S. Isn't it interesting that both Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss have had their "Wright" moments. Dawkins with Wendy and Lawrence with Robert. -
46:35 BINGO! I absolutely hate when philosophers go on about "science can't answer moral, or "big" questions, etc".
Philosophy can't either. That's the point. Science can at least give you enough information to best inform your rational argument, but you can't even do science without asserting we 'ought' to do science. -
Every scientist always talks about gravity but nobody knows what gravity is. Gravity is gravipush. What is gravipush? (Gauv Grauv's top science theory) In the multiverse big bang, bang everywhere when it is ready. It doesn’t matter big bang or small bang or tiny bang or hand clap bang, all the bang are energy that have release into the universe everywhere in space and bothers to all objects even atom or particle that I call: “stress pressure of the universe”. Those stress pressure travel straight line in space to all direction in speed of light without block each other and push to all objects form together even atom call “gravipush” (old word call gravity). All objects in space have blocked each other stress pressure of the universe made the stress pressure unbalance so those objects will run toward low pressure to each other by gravipush. Bigger object has bigger mass, bigger mass has more gravinet, more gravinet can block more stress pressure and get more gravipush. So I announce publicly: From now on no more gravity but gravipush to all scientists all over around the world. Thank you Written December 23, 2015

I fail to see the value in what modern philosophy has to offer In the way of truth in the 21st century. Yes it is the great grandfather of science, but it has been out grown and out thought by its superiorly evolved great grandchild. Philosophy is almost an embarrassment when set against the results of the scientific method. It uselessness and importance is embodied in the toothless, clawless arguments of the Robert Wright's of our modern world.

OMG I died at 26:00 ... "well that's what philosophy [is]". I love how Lawrence was being super precise and nuanced and the host thought he was simply wasting time. Unbelievable. Philosophy lives to dissect every single word and thought down to meaninglessness. Krauss' response was so perfect.

Krauss should have debated Metallica Shirt Man instead.. :)

The guy on the left should be named Robert Wrong.
