Awesomely retro and historic footage.

Survayor 1 was the first unmanned vehicle to land on the moon.It sent back numerous pictures of the landing sute.

Yes, correct, the Surveyor 1 and GT-9 in chrono proximity accounts for CBS News using the air title "the week in space." CBS News televised a one-hour special called "Two Weeks on the Moon," from CBS's Los Angeles studios with Charles Kuralt re Surveyor 1. Note the pushing of "selective coverage" as if that were a plus. Jack King, still with us, is the great voice of Gemini launch control. Note the teletypes in the background at times.--arhogan "Televising the Space Age" arhogan1610@yahoo.com

The US has never had another rocket since Gemini that was safe, practical, and at a low cost. Saturn IB was safe but far too expensive. Shuttle is both very dangerous and far too expensive. Our best hope is SpaceX Falcon9 rocket. It would be dramatically safer and the lowest cost. Perhaps a runner up would be UAL Atlas V. NASA's Ares-I was be a huge waist of money with empty promises of potential lowers costs (the same promises were made with the Shuttle).

@lunarmodule5 Indeed, CBS (as well as NBC and ABC) carried the launch of Surveyor 1 live, since their camera crews and anchors were already at the Cape.
-
@lunarmodule5 The Week In Space. That title sounds like a type of magazine show that CBS could have done during the 1960s, with all of the space missions that went on then.

I don't know why CBS called their coverage "The Week In Space", since it was not a week-long flight, but lasted only about 72 hours (as it was intended).
