Launch & Landing at LZ-1 of SpaceX's Falcon 9 with Dragon CRS-9
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
SpaceX has successfully launched it's 27th Falcon 9 rocket, the 6th flight of its Full Thrust variety. It carried the 10th Dragon spacecraft bound for the International Space Station full of 2,257 kilograms (4,976 pounds) of cargo including the important 'IDA-2' or International Docking Adapter 2 in the external truck. Liftoff took place at 04:44 UTC, July 18th 2016 from Space Launch Complex 40 of Cape Canaveral. The IDA-2 weighs 467 kilograms (1,030 pounds) and will be installed at the forward port of Node 2 allowing future commercial crew vehicles including the Dragon 2.0 to dock to the ISS and bring crew by an American vehicle for the first time since 2011 when the Space Shuttle was retired. This mission also saw the successful and 2nd ever landing attempt on land of the first stage. The stage completed several burns post separation of the second stage before slowing down and landing at Landing Zone 1 of Cape Canaveral. This is now the 5th first stage rocket that has been successfully landed and means officially the hangar at launch pad 39A is now full.

A very jammy (UK English for 'exceedingly lucky') friend of mine saw this on holiday in Florida with his young son. I am so envious - even though I was lucky enough to see an Atlas rocket take off when on holiday there a couple of years ago. I guess I should count my blessings...

So how much did we save by landing? Are we flying cheaper than Russians now?
-
Well done SpaceX!

молодцы!

Nice! Does this rocket auto land, or is it steered down, so to speak, by someone?

Do people really think this is fake? That makes me laugh. It is typical for someone to dismiss something as fake when it is completely out of the realm of comprehension for their small brains. Let SpaceX worry about landing rockets, you can worry about Pokemon Go.

Fake

Whats with the shift at 4:04? The altitude continues to climb but the entire image shifts, then they cut away.

Is SpaceX planing to use a quicker launch profile to ISS in the future (6 hours instead of two days), like Progress?

Wait for all the deluded Flat Earthers....... FAKE, FAKE,FAKE. Lol

What a shame the US Gov keep holding NASA back, and would rather piss billions of dollars down the drain fighting retarded wars on drugs and oil.
