Kerbal Space Program (KSP) - kOS Scriptable Autopilot System Mod v0.5 - Rover + Skycrane demo
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
My first KSP video. Here I'm demonstrating some of the capabilities of the kOS Scriptable Autopilot Mod for KSP. I built a Mars Curiosity Rover + Skycrane-style spacecraft and send it on a suborbital flight over Kerbin culminating with an exciting reentry and landing---entirely scripted using the kOS mod. Amazing! This video shows version kOS v0.5 with KSP v.0.21.1 You can find the mod at http://kerbalspaceport.com/kos/ You can download KSP from https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/ You can check out the script I wrote for this flight here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwrMAqirhs-BcG94dnE5UDNQLVE And here's hastily made annotated version: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwrMAqirhs-BZTlLWlFMTGF5UXM Feel free to leave any questions in the comments. --- Visit my KSP Parachute Calculator page: http://ksp.freeiz.com

Hey check how do i run science experiments with kos?

Great video, although every time you say the letter 's' it makes a horrible noise. try moving your mic away from your mouth :)

Thanks for the great video! I can't wait to get stuck into my own kos program!

great start! like and subscribe. keep on doing these awesome videos though.

Er, I meant if the terminal velocity of the heatshield was LESS than the terminal velocity of the rover+backshell.
-
In real life, the Curiosity rover's heatshield was separated after chute deployment. Not sure why, but if I had to guess, it'd be for 2 reasons: a) if the terminal velocity of the heatshield was greater than the terminal velocity of the rover+backshell without the chute deployed, then the heatshield might smack back up into the rover, potentially damaging it or b) separation of the heat shield without having the chute deployed to stabilize it might cause the rover+backshell to pitch violently.

I'm really looking forward to being able to get that data from Kerbal Engineer into KOS. It occurs to me that maybe instead of asking Nivekk to implement it in KOS maybe the thing to do is to ask them to add the CALL hooks in Kerbal Engineering instead. Because while you get some data from KOS its just not enough to really work with.

This a fucking good video, best one i have seen

This is a great video for your first

Oh of course. LoL. The worst thing is getting a coding error near the end of the program. Depending on the error, sometimes kOS will execute he whole script until the error (rather than telling you beforehand that there's an error in the code) and terminate... so you run your script thinking it's good and ten minutes later 'ERROR', program terminated, rover splat...

Nicely done, did you crash this a bunch of times while coding?
-
thx for sharing this, thx for sharing the code! just awsome
