Islam and Astronomy
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Did you know that historians of astronomy often refer to the time from the 8th through the 14th centuries as the Islamic period? As that was when most study of the stars took place in the Muslim world. In nautical astronomy, Muslim navigators developed two major instruments, the astrolabe and the compass. The astrolabe is described as ‘the most important astronomical calculating device before the invention of digital computers and was the most important astronomical observational device before the invention of the telescope.’ Its uses are varied, and not just in astronomy, but also in surveying and navigation. Muslims also developed observatories. A pioneering one was the Samarkand observatory which was equipped with a huge meridian and the finest instruments available, including a Fakhri sextant with a radius of 40.4 metres. It not only showed the degrees and minutes, but seconds too. http://www.1001inventions.com

And then what happened in the Arab countries? Make a video about that. Tell people about the brilliant imam who ended all progress for the Arab people. Tell how your human rights, intelligence, and education have gone backwards. Teach your people about the 14th and 17th centuries. Teach them about the mid-20th century. What happened? Tell how you're people are less intelligent than cavemen. Go on, explain.

A pity that the astrolabe was a greek invention,

Not like bible, Islam didn't say "Earth was a flat disk and 6000 years old" but billion years old, and planet are circling the Sun. Islam did not contradict modern science.

What are you talking about "western people in charge don't want to show the bright side of islam"? We were taught all of this, all of the contributions by the islamic world to the world of science, already when I was school some 20 or 30 years ago. I don't know why people are saying that this stuff isn't taught in western schools because it is taught in Swedish schools and Sweden is a western, atheist country.

because such information is burried and western people "in charge" don't want to show the bright side of Islam and the Islamic world after all the movies they made against it. Athiest or not, you are a normal thinking person who appreciates, some sick people simply can't appreciate this world.
