Is Jesus Just a Prophet or God? - Dr. Shabir Ally
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
What do you believe about Jesus? Is he a good man? Is he a prophet? Or is he, as Christians believe, actually divine? What do Muslims believe about Jesus? Is he a prophet or more than a prophet? Why is it important to understand the differences between the Christian and Islamic views of Jesus? Representing the Muslim perspective was Shabir Ally: Shabir Ally has earned a B.A. in Religious Studies from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, with a specialization in Biblical Literature, and an M.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Toronto with a specialization in Quranic Exegesis. He is now in his third year of Ph.D studies in Quranic Exegesis at the University of Toronto. Shabir is the president of the Islamic Information & Dawah Centre International in Toronto where he functions as Imam. He travels internationally to represent Islam in public lectures and interfaith dialogues. He explains Islam on a weekly television program called "Let the Quran Speak Representing the Christian side was Rev. Tony Costa: Rev. Tony Costa has earned a B.A. and an M.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Toronto. He is currently a Ph.D candidate with the University of Pretoria. Tony has been a guest on various television programs such as 100 Huntley Street, the Michael Coren Live Show, the Arlene Bynon Show on Prime Time, and On The Line with Christine Williams. Representing the Atheist side was Dr. Christopher diCarlo; Dr. diCarlo is a Philosopher of Science and Ethics whose interests in cognitive evolution have taken him into the natural and social sciences. His personal research focuses on how and why humans reason, think, and act the way they do. He is interested in how and why the human brain has evolved to its current state and what cross-cultural and cross-species behaviour can provide insight into universally common modes of reasoning. He is also interested in the application of neuroscience (specifically fMRI work), in an effort to better understand psychoneuroendocrine feedback looping in problem solving. Dr. diCarlo is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology where he teaches Critical Thinking, Bioethics, and other courses. His most recent book (just released by McGraw-Hill Ryerson) is entitled: How to Become a Really Good Pain in the Ass: A Practical Guide to Thinking Critically. He is also a past Visiting Research Scholar at Harvard University in the Department of Anthropology and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology where he conducted research for two books he is currently writing called: The Comparative Brain: The Evolution of Human Reasoning and The Evolution of Religion: Why Many Need to Believe in Deities, Demons, and the Unseen. I saved my comments for sharing elsewhere, for those who read this and wonder to know more. There is more. The Book of Abraham is just the tip of the iceburg.

So keep in mind, a God can prophesy. And a prophet is promised Godhood. I have a copy of the Book of Abraham and a copy of the Book of Moses, do you? Christ does not have to pick between one or the other, He is both, and true prophets are promised both because of His resurrection and sacrifice. Still, without the Holy Ghost and the prayer of faith, one cannot know this, so one is left to opinion. But the true without from the Holy Ghost is actually a revealing. We are left flailing without it. I received this undeniable testimony when I was young. You cannot ask and "know" if Jesus Christ is who He says He is too, but only by the prayer of faith in His name, asking for a witness of truth by the Holy Ghost, and that witness will come as the still small voice that a smile does, and as kindness does. It is courageous, but worth it. Remember, perfect hindsight is late, and outside the heavenly gates. We need FOREsight. That requires the spirit of possibility, not fear.

The Nicean Council was not "legally" able to define Christianity or represent it in its true form as Christ formed it "with His priesthood permissions", a power from heaven. Those were the Dark Ages for more reasons than one. But Isaiah and Gen 49 prophesy of when Christ would reestablish His True church upon the earth again, and that has come to pass. You know what? Culture and tradition can be both good and bad. It is good when it leads us by the power of the Holy Ghost, and it is bad when it doesn't. No other true prophet ever neglected the Holy Ghost, because God does not function, at all, without it,& will not commune with us, nor protect us,nor bring us to heaven without it, that is in true prophesy. There is no entrance to heaven without the possession of the Holy Ghost, & there is no winging it around it, &no substitute for it, the father Adam (who is the Angel Michael) taught that himself,as do all prophets who are true. Impossibility is not the way to heaven,*possibility is!

Hmm, He did NOT actually "leave", as this man assumes, rather, He continued with Christians from His resurrected state, filling all that Isaiah and all prophets said should come, including that said in Genesis 49, which George Washington promised with his hand on it when being sworn in as president. By the time Mohammad had his 'visitation' (keep in mind, Gabriel the Angel was the prophet Abraham in mortality--the Christian who knew Jesus Christ by name before He was born, because He identified Himself to Abraham, so who then, visited Mohammad?--never underestimate Lucifer's capability to deceive and abuse the identity of others, even Abraham),--and Mohammad was not comforted by this spirit, but rather oppressed by it, fearing it,coerced by it--it was the people who insisted he be their "prophet",Christ had already accomplished much, until 400AD,from the Other Side. Some think Mohammad is blasphemed? I think Christ and Gabriel (Abraham!) is blasphemed, the Holy Ghost's witness neglected.

This man is beating this to death unnecessarily. Debate & reason cannot bring mankind to "understanding", only weak "opinion". Even Adam was taught the necessity of using the prayer of *faith in the *name of *Jesus Christ, to *know *truth *THROUGH the unequalled *power of the *Holy Ghost. THAT is the ONLY phenomenon CAPABLE of *WITNESS of *All Truth. Christ was the Son of God for a reason: He is the ONLY Benefactor we have--the ONLY ONE--Who overcAme our spiritual bankruptcy. God the Father--that same God of Adam and all the true prophets, said it was necessary that one pay for us what we would not be able to do for ourselves. That same God was NOT correctly defined by those around 300AD, for by that time, the influence of the Holy Ghost was not with man, since they killed the apostles who held the priesthood of Melchizadek and Aaron. Christ is the Messiah who was promised, and the PROPHESYING God alongside God the Father, to those on this earth and elsewhere for whom He sacrificed.

Jesus (pbuh) of Nazareth – a Man Approved of God
The following statement from the Bible supports the Islamic belief that Jesus (pbuh) was a prophet of God.
"Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know."
[The Bible, Acts 2:22] -
Jesus said "No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven." Jesus references himself as the Son of Man constantly throughout the Bible. So he references him self as someone who descended from heaven. No other prophet has ever referred to them self's this way.

Matthew 7:21 Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, 22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ jesus was just a prophet. -
He's just a prophet of Allaah,
Just like in the Qoran.
5:72
They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." INDEED, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.
5:73
They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the third of three." And there is no god except one God. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, there will surely afflict the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.
5:74
So will they not repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
5:75
The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded.
