Start your journey here: https://www.thunderbolts.info/wp/2015/01/31/eu2015-home-page/ We at The Thunderbolts Project think that no truly coherent cosmology can fail to address human consciousness. As Wal Thornhill has written, "A real cosmology must be a broad and coherent natural philosophy. It may always be incomplete, based on our limitations, but to be valid there can be no exceptions in our experience. In particular, cosmology must address issues of life and the human condition. Therefore it must be a truly interdisciplinary pursuit." Today, perhaps the ultimate unsolved mystery of human life is: how and why does consciousness exist? Although some scientific literature still acknowledges that the question remains open, the overwhelming consensus among neuroscientists today is that the brain alone creates conscious experience. However, for decades, acclaimed scientists around the world have conducted research into consciousness that provides a very different picture. One of the most remarkable of these researchers is Dr. Gary Schwartz, professor of psychology, medicine, neurology, psychiatry and surgery at the University of Arizona and director of its Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health. We asked Dr. Gary Schwartz for his thoughts on the mystery of consciousness. Dr Schwartz's website: http://www.drgaryschwartz.com/ Gary E. Schwartz, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology, Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry, and Surgery at the University of Arizona, at the main campus in Tucson. In addition to teaching courses on health and spiritual psychology, he is the Director of the Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health. Gary received his Ph.D. in psychology from Harvard University in 1971 and was an assistant professor at Harvard for five years. He later served as a professor of psychology and psychiatry at Yale University, was director of the Yale Psychophysiology Center, and co-director of the Yale Behavioral Medicine Clinic, before moving to Arizona in 1988. Those most eager to learn are invited to the EU Workshop, November 14-16, 2014 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown. This event will be led by Wal Thornhill and Dave Talbott, who are preparing full summaries of their life’s work, something that has never been presented publicly. Wal’s talks will be complemented by additional material from electrical theorist Dr. Donald Scott, and Dave’s presentations will be reinforced by Ev Cochrane, author of several essential books on the ancient sky. Seating will be limited. No end of discussion.

This has been understood for thousands of years, and the Rulers use Matter to control the masses. Its not rocket science that the fear of death is the biggest hurdle most people face and a whole rhetoric has evolved to substantiate this fatalistic outlook.. Matter is ever changing, and it is matter that people try and control, a never ending or "perpetual" preoccupation.

Well whatever the argument... you'll find out when you die
-
please do not let this pass for science, he strings a bunch of words together without presenting anything scientific or concluding a point for that matter. i guess that is an admirable skill in its self often demonstrated by sarah palin

Jesus in the bible said God is a Spirit, which means a mind or in modern terms a consciousness. A mental disposition, vital principle. He was onto something.
-
If the conscious is abstract of the brain, why aren't we born with full awareness? Why do we become more self-conscious over time as the brain developes?
-
I am very much on the fence - however - there have been cases of people with the majorty of their brain missing (or removed) - and still have pure consciousness therefore my assumption is consciousness can function and exist without brain function.

may the Schwartz be with you

I have been seriously studing Near Death Experiences (NDEs) for 25 years. Everything Dr. Gary Schwartz says is 100% true. As Donald Trump would say "Believe Me". :)
-
I think "postmaterialist science" is another term for "nonsense"... or "pseudoscience".

Adepts (researchers in Consciousness) know Consciousness is a field. Brain is local, mind is non local
-
The brain and the heart create consciousness

lol such bullshit

Well said. I already knew everything the interview mentioned but I'm glad scientists are seeing it to. The difference between a persons spirit and a soul is this. The soul is ego and experience collected by a physical person. The spirit is a non physical etheric being in raw form existing before, during and after a physical life. The spirit is like the driver of a car, or player of a musical instrument. The body is the musical instrument or vehicle. The soul is the music played or road driven. I don't know why people find this such a difficult concept. The evidence of the afterlife or previous life happens with hynotherapy using past life interview techniques. Destiny of Souls is a great book written about these techniques. 30 random people were interviewed using these techniques. What they found, people have been asking since the beginning of humanity. Even Atheists go to Heaven.

How can something physical create something abstract like an idea?
-
No brain alone don't create consciousness....
