Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences, which helped and continues to help people find out more about the stars, far away planets and celestial objects, which may help find answers to some of the most unusual phenomena, which take place in Earth. Unlike at the times of Nicolaus Copernicus, Hans Lippershey, Galileo Galilei and Johannes Kepler, who used mostly observations and first prototypes of telescopes, today scientists have a larger array of tools, which may be used for studying space, planets, galaxies and the Universe as a whole. We have put together a list of fun facts from the history of space exploration and future plans in this field. The video includes such facts: - which astronomer invented the first telescope? - influence of the speed of light on how we see the stars; - discovery of the largest satellite in the Solar System; - the coldest known object in all of the Universe; - Great Red Spot or a storm in Jupiter’s southern Hemisphere; - Pistol Star as the largest star, known to the science; - how many stars are there in the Milky Way; - Quasars as the Universe’s most distant objects; - price for the construction of the International Space Station; - the first food grown and eaten in space; - what are space suits and EMU made of? - a planet, which has a surface made of diamonds; - how 3D printing may be used by astronauts.
