Installing My New RV Solar Batteries And Power System
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
I started to move my electroinics and solar power setup over to the new off grid RV. It was more work than I had expected due to the weight of the batteries and the amount of connections involved. I also had to drill a few more holes in order to finish the setup. The old RV batteries were moved into the camper and the newer camper golf cart batteries were moved into the new battery box in the RV. I moved the powerbright sine wave inverter and the Tristar MPPT solar charge controller that Northern Arizona Wind & Sun gave me. Both are mounted together by the battery box. I still need to connect the ventilation fan with a small solar panel for summer usage. In summer I only need to run the fan when the batteries are charging up. In winter or cold weather the fan will run 24/7 to keep the battery bank warm. I now have AC power on demand in the new off grid solar p I did not manage to finish the move last night into the RV. Tonight I hope to be sleeping in there full time now. I still need to get the carpet in there but there is not enough electricity for me to work on my computer in the old camper now. I need to find a way to get solar panels hooked up to it now. It is parked way too far into the shade for my HF panels to reach.

can you have a battery isolator, and shore power charge your battery bank with solar?using whichever option available?

I have a couple questions and anyone can answer if they know...how many watts does the inverter dish out? How many solar panels are you running? How long does it take to charge all of the batteries? With this battery bank you have now, do you think it could run two desktop computers and an air conditioner? I think the idea is awesome by the way! Thank you!

I thought that was great! My only question is: "do you have to ground both the inverter and the battery bank?"

he starts talking about the power system at 5:42

I am concerned you put breather holes under the inverter which could cause the off gassing batteries to go ka-boom . instructions would like you to keep inverter 4ft away from batteries because of this issue.

are those snakes poisonous? why not kill them before they kill you...i hate snakes

RV floors give\move. None of them are stable. That is why you do not see tiles used in RV's. Linoleum won't separate. Flooring should be tongue and groove, including the sub floors.

Some helpful hints for your power. It may be small, but you have a power loss by using that plug. If the inverter is out of warranty you can open it up and wire your power line directly to the wires that lead to that plug. You could drill a hole in the bottom of the inverter (in a clear place) and run your wire in there, keeping a neat and tidy appearance.
Also in case you didn't know, you should check your inverters efficiency, do it by hand and don't rely on what the manual says the efficiency is. Even if they are not outright lying, the stated power is usually gotten under perfect conditions in a lab, something you will never achieve. If you don't know how to test let me know and I'll walk you through it -
Vaseline for windows works amazing

did you hook up the morning star batttery charger to hte batteries ,first battery red ,last battery black ??

your problem is you need to let the glue dry to a sticky tack before laying the floor

same thing happen to me with my floor

You mentioned the venting holes you drilled in the top of your battery compartment letting the "warm air in". Warm air won't go anywhere but "up" unless you have some way to draw it in by force. Additionally, you have now vented the battery compartment into the living space but hopefully the lower holes in there will allow off-gasing to leave through that route. Keep working at it!

For some reason the phrase "the blind leading the blind" comes to mind.

Troy your newer older batteries deep cycle 100 each

HI
YOU SHOULD HAVE BATTERY TRAYS IN THE CUBBY HOLE THAT THEM BATTERIES ARE GONNA LIVE FOR THE PURPOSE OF CATCHING THE EXCESS FLUID FROM THEM AND THEY SHOULD BE STRAPPED DOWN SOME HOW SO WHEN MOVING THEY DONT JUMP AROUND...
SHOULD MAKE A SLIDE DOOR FOR YOUR FAN ON THE BOTTOM OF YOUR FLOOR OF THE BATTERY BOX SO WHEN YOU GO DOWN THE ROAD YOU CAN SLIDE IT CLOSED, WITH ALL THE OTHER CLOSINGS AND SHUTTING DOWNS & PACKING UPS YOU HAVE TO DO BEFORE YOU TAKE OFF...
I MADE A LIST OF THINGS HAD IT LAMINATED AND TAPED IT TO THE DOOR SO THAT I COULD DO EACH OF THE LISTED THINGS TO MAKE SURE ALL WAS DONE BEFORE I PUT THE RV INTO GEAR TO HEAD OUT....

Lowe's is not a RV specialist. They sell you basically household stuff. Homes do not move, vibrate, expend and contract like vehicles do. Go the a RV supplier and talk to those that deal with RVs and their issues. They will know all the problems related to RVs.

Is this about solar panels and installation or about moisture. Waste of time
