Installing a Renogy 200W Solar Kit on my RV

Check out the full blog post here for product links - http://www.loveyourrv.com/installing-renogy-200w-solar-kit-rv/ In this video I explain how I installed a Renogy 200 watt RV Solar Kit into my Keystone Cougar fifth wheel trailer. I'll show you the short routing I found and where to run the wiring in the Model 276RLS Cougar. At the end I take the trailer out boondocking for a real world test of the Renogy system. I've been wanting solar for a while now but wasn't able to spend the cash. This system will get me into a modest solar system for a relatively low price, about $425 spent. it will also be easy to expand it to 400 watts in the future. The Renogy panels have very good reviews on Amazon so I bit the bullet and picked up this system for Xmas. ----------------------------------- Follow our RVing adventures at http://www.loveyourrv.com and http://rvhappyhour.com -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Check out my Favourite RV Updates: "20 Useful Upgrades I've Made To Our RV" ➨ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpwstJZcAig -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- - Connect with Love Your RV! 2 things sir, first a very good video on solar and the second thing. My dad used to take my family (there were 14 kids) to saltnsea and it was a favorite camping site for us in the 60s, so I thoroughly enjoyed the video. It looks like the area has been cleaned up since we were there half a century ago. thanks for the video it brought back some long forgotten memories

Depending on how much traveling you do I suggest you use grommets as the plastic covering won't last long

Just installed mt 200 Renogy system....almost 10am and will check my output. Fingers crossed for 6,8 amps! Yesterday at 4:30, I was able to get 6.2 amps. Thanks for the tips, need to add the white tape to protect the wires from the outside elements.

I just finished my 150 watt setup on my camper van. Ill make a vid and link it. So i can see what you think.

It looks like you interrupted (cut) the feed wire so you could get a reading to the volt meter? Would it have made more sense to just have hardwired the multi-meter leads into the feed wire?
-
I'm not sure if you're aware but if you read renogy's warranty it says it's not supposed to be used in mobile applications.

What is the purpose of two 6 volt batteries instead of one 12 volt. I have a deep cycle 12 volt on my travel trailer. I don't have room for two 6 volt unless I build an external battery box of some kind.

Great video! I'm wondering on the reason for applying the tape before drilling the holes for the mounts - what's the advantage of having the tape? I'm inclined to just follow this same procedure since it looks like a nice result, but thought I'd ask since I am not 100% sure of this step.

Hi from panels to charge control panel 30am fuse and 10awg cable? Then cont. box to battery same? And is u have 2 6v in "series" would u also get a third 30amp fuse but to "coach" cable (pos+) ? At 4awg? Does that sound ok? I have renogy 100watt panel 30amp cont. box and 2 6v batt. =12v.. Does that make sense? U are the closest ive found to an answer. On the renogy manual it said "8a" fuse from panels to cont. Box? I have need done this before so im so lost but have a dry camping trip in 3 with 5!!! Kids!!! So they need tv!! Lol. Any info would be so appreciated. Tia.

i have a 200watts air conditioner ....i was thinking about purchasing it for it. Is that possible?

I thought you added 2 panels. Must have been someone else. Thanks very much for answering all my questions so patiently. I'm learning and I think this 2 panel, 4 battery setup will work just fine for us. Again, thank you. Maybe I will do a vid on my install.

I think I can fit 4 6v batteries in 2 cases on my tongue. I'm going to find a way to fit 4 100 watt panels on that roof. If I go bigger than 4 batteries I will have a tongue weight problem. That should be a fairly good setup, right? I know 6 batteries would be better. But I don't think I can make it happen. I have my Yamaha 2000 to fall back on when necessary. I would think I could run my furnace, use a few lights, and watch tv in the evening without hitting the generator. No? Travel trailers are a lot harder to work with than 5th wheels and Class As.

Let me get this straight. Two 6v are enough for two 100 watt panels?
