Hi! At 5:05 in the video, you said observation and data collection are the fields you really need in Astronomy. I want to become an Astronomer. I've always wanted to do the observation and data collection and maybe I could use some skills I have gained externally to build my own programs when existing ones are not sufficient. I'm currently doing A-levels in Pure Maths, Physics and Biology. Do you think I should really go for this dream I have since I was a child and what would be your recommended way to do this?
-
What math does astronomy mostly use ?I know there's alot but i'd like to know the specifics thanks.

Thanks for your advice! Can anyone here please tell me about the big data thing? And which astronomy related institutes are hiring people for such jobs!
Cheers... -
Im 24 yrs old. Do you think it is to late for me to try to get into astronomy? I dont know if i want to work in astronomy or be a teacher in astronomy. What careers can i get for a bachelors degree in astronomy?

Would being a felon disqualify me, even if I really put my mind to it

Tony, I love your videos! I have a couple questions regarding this video given my situation. I recently graduated with a Masters of Architecture and have also come to realize that I would like to work in the field of astronomy. I am very technical and enjoy anything tech related. I have even began to learn programming on my own. Given what you have said in this video are there any recommendations you have if working with processing the "big data" is something I want to do? I have considered after becoming a licensed architect to go for a bachelors in physics. I have also pondered on how to use my skills and knowledge of architecture simultaneously for a job in astronomy. The thought of using the two together using new technology fascinates me. What I want the most now is to direct my life in a direction that will set me up for this kind of job in the future. I appreciate all the videos and any advice!

I'm 14 and I am really interested in becoming an astronomer. What can I do ?
-
Great advice. I'm a mathematical scientist who is debating grad school right now. I have my own pros and cons on grad school but I'd appreciate hearing yours.

Dream job for many but few go...

What do you think would be the best way to actually work at a telescope and get the data and pictures?

Saw this title in my subscriptions, dropped everything to watch..

As a Computer Science major working in IT for many years, who always wanted to do practical work in Astronomy, this gives me some hope I still might, thank you for this! :)
-
I remember reading about the 'cookbook' camera. It was nice to hear your story.
-
This really helped! Because i have no idea what i'm doing here.

I have completed my bachelors degree in Engineering not specifically in Physics but I have huge interest in Astronomy. If i want to pursue my career in Astronomy, can you suggest me how should i start? Do I have a chance of getting admission for MS in astrophysics in US or any European univ ? Please help me. PS i'm not from USA.
-
What should I study at the university , and any level of education is required in order to be an stronaut ? and after i finish all of that i can apply to NASA like any other normal job?
-
Well sorry but a lot of jobs paying well now are going to go offshore, these jobs will evaporate since it's all about money.
-
Hi Tony, can you make a video or a podcast about programming and software used in professional astronomy? Many thanks

Thank you so much for all this information! I am soon to be a high school graduate in the next couple days and I am going on to a junior college in the fall. It has been my dream to work in the astronomy field for years now. If you could, make a video on what to expect in a physics class or something along those lines. Thank you again!!
