How to Make: Papier Mâché Spheres
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
We’re making giant Papier Mâché Spheres! This is Part 1 of a two-part Giant Moving Emoji Mask / Eeee-motion Papier Mâché Mask project! See more details below.... Check out the supply list and complete step-by-step printable here: makercamp.com/fall2015/pdfs Sure, we could spend several days 3D-printing a sphere, but that would take a long time. We calculated it, and it’d be about... hours. Real Makers know the right hack for any job. For this project we chose papier-mâché because it’s a quick way to make a sphere. Plus it’s lightweight (we need to be able to wear it on our head), and inflatable beach balls and balloons are super easy to find. And this ain’t your preschool teacher’s papier mâché: we’ll also give you some of our own expert tips about the finer points of paper sculpting. Campers, what will YOU create with your giant sphere? Come up with something unique, or follow along with us in Part Two! We'll use our giant spheres to make an Eeee-motion Papier-mâché Mask! More specifically, we'll be building the bugged-out blusher Emoji! We’ll use LEDs and mechanics to make it super neat and interactive. Here are the supplies you'll need for this project: ▢ inflatable beach ball (24") or extra-large round balloon ▢ 5 standard balloons ▢ newspaper ▢ white tissue paper ▢ 2 medium-sized bowls ▢ 5 cups ▢ masking tape ▢ liquid starch ▢ white glue ▢ sandpaper, various grits
