Holy shit. A bunch of foam with a cheap Mic? That is very surprising.
-
Allright! Record on a room full of garbage! at least this I have it! yeeey!
-
This makes a lot of sense, and the foul-mouthed way it's presented makes it easier for me to understand. Thanks! I'm gonna try some of this out.

"Wet Foam" is used for those shitty flower arrangements your grandmother has in her stinky living room.
Downside is that since they're made for things to be poked into them they crumble...

woah something actually useful, found you on reddit, cool work man

thanks for that lesson Ricepirate ;)
this was worth my time -
Neat. But what if I want it to echo? I'm not exactly sure how to add artificial echo, or at least the kind that sounds realistic...

For acoustic treatment on a budget, I've blocked off a corner of a room with 3 mattresses and a boxspring I had on hand (instead of throwing away) and covered the desk with a small blanket of fake fur. It gets warm in there but gets the job done.

I'm not a voice actor (maybe one day :D), but I'm making audition tapes for professional orchestras, and this has been super helpful! It'll come in handy considering the fact that I have no access to any sort of soundproof studio. Thanks!
-
ok I did an experiment and you can get the same effect by (not kidding) just being under your bed sheets along with the mic..... so add blanket/bed forts to your list xD
-
I'll definitely have to keep this as a reference.
Say, would using foam exercise mats work as well? -
Going back to this video is such a help. My space is really not the best, but I try to make the best of it.
-
so lets say that I'm a retarded slob and my closet is filled with blankets, luggage, and large shirts to cover my disgusting body. can I just record in there as long as I promise to come out?
-
Wow this actually really helped me!... if I created videos for a living. But I''m sure to take your advice, Mr. Pirate, if I ever decide to record my shitty voice over a stick with my friends wig/afro on it. Thanks from possible video-making future me!
-
Would the same type of space treatment be appropriate for recording foley?
-
Well now I spent money on luggage, cushions and blankets that I'll never use but I now have better sound quality :DDD
-
This music pisses me the fuck off. Great video though!
-
I make a blanket fortress around my mic and my head when I need to record lmao
-
It is too bad my computer generates a white noise in my recordings. I have tried 4 different mics in 3 different ports (usb, front mic in, rear mic in). I even have a sound card that only made it slightly less noticeable.

I need this advice! :D
