How to Build a Smart Airlock Tutorial [Space Engineers]
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
In this tutorial, I will explain in detail how to create your own smart airlock without the use of any mods or scripts. Having an airlock will save oxygen, a valuable new resource, from being expelled into space every time you want to access your ship or station. Creating an intelligent airlock will prevent even accidental decompression and lung explosions. Creating it is easy, all you need to do is follow along and have a copy of Space Engineers for yourself! Want to download the map? Excellent and concise. No unneccessary promotion. Subscribed :)

What a amazing Airlock! I built this in my Asteroid base and it worked very well! Thank you for the Tutorial! #SmartAirlock
-
I recommend that you close both doors and turn them off in both stage 1s and only open either door at the end.
-
Also, you can make a more simple airlock by putting two large doors next to eachother
-
Can u do a tutorial for a large landing ship for non atmospheric planets that has at least 4 refineries and lots of storage along with a jump drive?
-
You have really nice stations

Morph,
I noticed an anomaly when attempting to use this for my mobile base setup, having the depressurize cycle the same timer as the door does not leave sufficient time to close the door, the vent inside the airlock sucks a small amount of air out of the room it is attached to as the door shuts each time it is cycled to depressurize, basically over a couple of dozen cycles my air lock tank filled up and became useless - since vents are smart and do not attempt to pressurize open spaces in the current version, i can see being able to fix this by add a single timer that handles the air vent on the depressurize cycle individually and then hands over to the stage 2 cycle timer. -
I make my airlocks with the 4 timer blocks, but Only 2 doors, 2 sensors and no vent. The space that the doors occupy don't count with pressurization. You just need to set the timer blocks to not let both doors open at the same time.

From what I can see in the video, this is the timer blocks:
Pressurize 1:
1 sec delay
Sound play
Warning light on
Exterior light on
Inner door on
Outer door close
Air Vent Depressurize off
Pressurize 2 start
Pressurize 2:
8 sec delay
Sound stop
Warning light off
Inner light off
Inner door open
Outer door off
---
Depressurize 1:
1 sec delay
Sound play
Warning light on
Inner light on
Outer door on
Inner door close
Air Vent depressurize on
Depressurize 2 start
Depressurize 2:
8 sec delay
Sound stop
Warning light off
Exterior light off
Outer door open
Inner door off

This worked for me, for those of you having a hard time following the video. -
Its a good idea and great tutorial but my god when you are going that fast and I have to constantly alt tab out of space engineers (I have 2 monitors fyi) so that I can start watching over at an earlier section so I can keep up.
-
Between you and W4stedspace, I have learned so very much!
-
can u make a simple version because i am very bad at keeping track
-
You could make this much more simpler... Just have three blocks long corridor. Put door-empty-door and on that empty a sensor. Then adjust the sensor field so it's only inside that middle block. Then put "shut airlock doors" action to both, in/out sensorfield actionbar. Then you just need to use T to open doors, but they will automatically close behind you. Sure you will lose small amount of oxygen, but station wise, it's hardly noticeable.
-
If you can't have an air lock attached to a station.... what's the point??? I guess I'm confused when you say this can't be connected to the rest of your network? Huh....sorry I'm new to the game
-
it doesn't work for me, followed every step of the tutorial. doors open and lights work fine, but the vent doesn't pressurize and depressurize
-
I'm going to guess my game is glitched, depressurizing does not work in my game, also oxygen tanks stay four red lights no matter what I do. starting to think I need to re install the whole game. hopefully I'll get to use this tutorial eventually because it's a good one.

Excellent video. Clear and concise.
But... There is a small problem. The door does not close fast enough when pressurising the airlock, so you lose some O2. Seems you need 3 timer blocks, with the 2nd only handling pressurising. Not so important when depressurising.
We need a delay interval 'within' timer blocks.
Still think it is an excellent video :) -
Good Tut, subscribed.

How did you get that cool hud/g-screen? Awesome tutorial btw! Keep up the work!

This was a very useful tutorial for me and a few friends! Very Nice Job! I liked and Subed. Thanks a Lot.
