The first video outlines detailed step-by-step instructions on how to build a portable solar powered generator. The second video explains how to connect your generator to a solar panel and charge controller for charging. Also covered is how to combine your solar panel and charge controller into one unit so as to be more portable. Video number 2 can be found here: http://youtu.be/DW6C-ZjmRzo

I finally managed to get around to building one of these, and its brilliant. I am really pleased with the result as I now have a decent portable power supply I can use when I am working away from home and it didn't cost a fortune to build. I modified the design so I have a total of four 12v outlets plus the dual usb outlet. I also fitted the solar controller inside the ammo box, instead of onto the solar panel, as it was a convenient and tidy way of hiding it away. Getting all the cables routed wasn't particularly easy as it was tight for space, but it is working and I am fairly pleased with it. Thanks for all your help, the videos were really helpful and pitched just right for someone like me who has limited experience with projects like this. Please keep doing what you do :)

hello, the connectors are called f1 and the larger size is called f2 and for your tight to get to tabs like the volt meter or switch they make ones that come out the side or should i say 90 degree. also you can get a 12v 12ah battery that will last longer. just some facts that will help. bigdog out

i have been searching for a video that would explain the whole process to wire solar electricity throughout. this is by far the best instructive video. thank you so much for sharing this, i learned A LOT. 👍

Great video! Couple quick questions - Will a 100w solar panel work with the 420w version? What would need to be done to make a 840w version?

Hello, great video! I am interested in making an attempt at building this box, the larger one, but would like to include a 110 AC outlet. I am trying to run an ARB fridge or a small heater, lights, etc. Do you have any suggestions?

I am very impressed by your demonstration. I think you have a natural ability to teach. Your work looks good and this is a very clever idea. Like it good job Andrew!!

So the fuse would be first on the BOLT type battery then stack the others on top?

Question: I followed your link to the "420 watt" battery. Scanning through the details I see nothing that claims its 420watt. I'm not saying you are lying but can you elaborate how you determined that with the specs provided. Also a scale of what the voltage meter displayed means to us non electric ppl. 0 - 12 volts means what? is it like a gas gauge? 0(empty) 12(full) things still run until it says 0? like say a car would run until its empty. I've heard you don't want to drain the battery past 50% (right/wrong)? Thanks

Thanks so much for sharing your videos. Very informative and I love that you can go to your website and order the parts. Great for those of us who get confused trying to figure it out.

Thanks for the awesome video! I'm now confident that I can take solar on :) However, I do have one question. When using the larger screw post battery how do you handle the positive fuse? I know you can stack ring terminals for the negative post. But wouldn't you only want one on the positive post with the fuse first? And use squeeze connectors behind that one positive post wire still like your showed with the other battery? Sorry, this is all new to me... Thanks again for posting this!

Awesome. Can you charge the battery while using the ports? Also, do you know the est cost for all the parts (now)?
