How to Add Water to Batteries. Solar Battery Bank Off Grid Maintenance Instructions.
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
Lead-Acid batteries need to be maintained by adding distilled water to the cells. Here I explain and show how to add water to your solar battery bank. This is a video from my series on how to install a stand-alone battery backup solar power system. Hope you enjoyed it. Here are the system specs and major component parts: 48Volt Nominal System 4100Watt Solar Array (18 x 230Watt SoPray Polycrystalline Photovoltaic Solar Panels) 4400Watt 48V Magnum Pure-Sine Inverter, Outback FM80 80Amp Charge Controller with MPPT 16 x L-16 6V Deep Cycle Batteries Main Enclosure Panel (Custom API E-Panel) Midnight Solar 6 String Combiner Box UniSolar Roof Rack and Fast Jack Mounting **Solar power arrays and components are designed to be installed by professionals. They are Dangerous electrical instruments. Misuse could result in injury or death. Please do not try this at home.

I am pretty sure you can find good solution on inplix webpage :)

Hopefully you're aware of the top level point of the fluid for each cell... it does not get filled to the top of the chamber...? Over filling will result in a mess later on...The maximum safe fluid level is just touching the
""BOTTOM""of the filler tubes. -
So, if you regularly maintain your batteries, how long of life do you expect these batteries to have? And are there longer lasting batteries out there? Im asking because in a SHTF scenario I can't just buy a new battery bank.

I want to setup an Off grid system and that will be used everyday, So I guess I would have to top it up every month at least.
Also looking into building a solar distiller to make my own distilled water.
I would use a headlamp to see the water levels easier, might as well make use of my camping one ;)
Thanks for the videos. -
Can you provide some info/link to the product you mention adding to the batteries that allows only the hydrogen to escape?

Trying to figure out how you figure you have 6000 amps? If your running at 48 Volts which means every eight batteries is in series so you only get the amps from every (8) batteries. Assuming prior to connections you had 6000 which would mean every battery would have 375 amps, But now its in sets 2 sets of 8 you have 750 amps. What most people wont know is that because its 48 it will draw less amperage to run things. Might want to explain that part better. The other thing saying 6k makes them 375 each where as the manf says there 360?

Purified water could still have minerals depending on how it was purified. If it was through Osmosis than you are probably fine. You should be ok if you dont do it anymore. The minerals from not distilled water collect on the lead plates in the battery and diminish the lifetime of them. Just make sure next time you use distilled. Good luck!

I added purified water...Is that the same as distillate water?-or I just messed up my batteries?
