Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the making of Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. In Part 2, we dive into the production of the Floyd section of the film. Every bit of information in this video was available for free on the Internet and from the Bluray of the film. I explored what was available on the Internet and found tons of great information from a wide variety of sources concerning the special effects, music, costumes, set, and several of the actors. thanks - great job - very good research

Well done! I especially liked the end of the video, explaining the composition.
-
Wow! Great job, found this just after watching the movie for the first time. Thank you.
-
great stuff! I love your videos. I've learned a lot about camera work just by this video alone.
-
When you think the film was mostly made with cardboard cut-outs and pins, it's quite good.
-
Until I watched this video , I was unaware the satellite was a deadly weapon.
-
Also, do you have one of these for the opening sequence?
-
Look, I'll be as succinct as possible: this is wonderful, and you should be proud of yourself.
-
Sublime!!
-
If George Lucas made this he'd CGI-in the much more modern at&t logo overtop the very old fashioned original 'bell' one visible at 20:32
-
I must say that you did a great job here! I am a big movie lover, and these are interesting to wach :)
I ordered your channel off course! -
Great series, I mean it -- but please drink some water!

This kind of documentary is what YT should be about. Informative, intelligent, to the point, terrific resolution. The only thing I'd criticize is the speed of the narration. You're trying too hard to cover as much info as possible in a short amount of time, so you come off as someone trying to break speed-barriers in talking. The speed of light is nothing compared to the speed with which you give us info. A narrator isn't supposed to talk so fast.

The video phone scene had one sly joke when the phone charge displayed an expensive $1.25. In 1968 calls from a phone booth were only ten cents at the least.

I watched 2001 for the first time a few days ago, and these videos provide excellent detail about how all the effects were produced.
From this video in particular, I get quite a negative impression of Kubrick's character. The fact that he destroyed the props that were the efforts of so many people, in order to preserve the uniqueness of the film (4:56) and didn't notify his composer ahead of time that his soundtrack was not used (7:04) suggest that he was paranoid and self-centred in how he produced his films.
Another piece of evidence for this is that the end credits list the actors' names, but do not specify their roles. This implies that the significance of other peoples' contributions were not fully recognised. Do you think this is an accurate judgement, or is it just a series of coincidences that paint an unfair image of Kubrick? -
Well done Tyler! This movie is special for me, since my childhood! I use to watch it every time i got the oportunity to see it on tv, specialy it was in middle of night i remmber. At age 8 i didnt understand the movie, but it captures me since then. and also when I was 13 I saw it in cinema!

Kudos to Tyler for his fine work.

It is so interesting seeing how they made this film. That I have yet to actually watch fully. Read the book though. It's odd to see how they did stuff we would later do easily even in home enthusiast projects. And what they got right and wrong. Course some of the wrong is due to our lack of care and effort in outer space. Others are just technologies nobody had really thought of then that changed culture but.. Not things that would allow the dreams kids from the 50-80s actually had. :(

These videos are great! I'm having trouble finding a link to the wedge testing page? Nothing appears for me!

The cut from bone to satellite is a big f-u to the human race, as if to say, in the cosmic scale of my film, four million years of human history is trivial.
