How I Size Solar Battery Bank and Solar Panels - How Many Batteries? How Many Solar Panels?
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
now we know how much load we will have on a typical day being drawn from our solar batteries its time to determine how large of a battery bank we need. the loads are measured in watts while the batteries are measured in amp hours. once you determine if you will go with a 12v or 24v or even a 48v battery bank system its time to figure out how many amps you will need. match the watts use in a day with the watts in your solar panels however you must consider storms, seasons, bad solar days so having more solar is good. auto tracers use more power then the extra they produce where manual is better

A good video with plenty of information, well done that man.

this works for me and its the way I figured it out. I am sure its not the perfect way but its my way.

Thanks for this comprehensive video. Those who are attempting to move on, I would suggest sticking to this video to get the basic idea.

Hi! thanks soo much for your helping

Hi! it's possible to connect 2 different battery in serie system ( i mean different ampere ), thanks

You're using the wrong batteries if your maximum discharge is 50%. Trojan batteries have a typical standard for 20%. Pay the extra $100 for a better battery.

I run a swamp cooler.... from home depot.... Durango window unit... the least amps used of all I looked at.... works GREAT.

The wire run from solar panels to battery charge controller often gets over-looked! With a 24 volt system, I had to run 6 gage wire from solar panel bus to charge controller NO MORE THAN 20 feet... or you incur losses in the wires..... no one that lives out here pays any attention to that! I see 12 volt systems that use 8 gage wires going about 100 feet!!!! lol.... somone, years ago, helped these people set up their solar systems like that. I swear, everyone's system is 12 volts... and they use 8 gage wire for everything!!!! My house is about the only house in the area that's all lit up at night :) A few clouds and you hear everyone's generators running that night... but not me.... I only had to run the gennie maybe 3 times in the past year....

I use 4 rolls surrettes... S-605's.... 24 volt system.... set my inverter to shut off at 24 volts..... so far I have been able to live on the one or so volts above 24 at night.... only had one time where the inverter shut off in the morning after a few cloudy days. You can run almost as much electrics as you want during the day.... after the batteries go into 'bulk' and definitely after getting into 'float' ... it's all free electric at that point. I run the generator a few times a year, to charge the batteries only.... although the inverter puts that dirty 110 VAC into the cabin.... I always unplug my fridge when I run the gennie. After a full day of sun, my voltage is around 25.6 after the sun sets.... it usually goes down to around 24.6 by the time I go to bed.... I have a energy efficient fridge/freezer and a humidifier that runs off and on for my grand piano.... gets through the night just fine. I run computer, internet (Hughes), TV, lights and fridge, and two motion sensor lights front and back (which turn on and off a lot) at night no problems. Also replaced all ALL my lighting with Walmart LED light bulbs.... they use 5 watts each.... they had them on sale once and bought about 20 of them.... no drain at all on the system... no worries about too many lights on! lol

This video is clear an thorough thanks for that

Im gonna save you a ton of power. When you build a system start with the end use and work backwards. Here is how to make everything run on less. Laptop: get a DC to DC step up buck converter Ebay less than 5 bucks I have a 32" TV running on one steps 12V up to 12-32V (its adjustable and I set it on about 18V) Prolly save at least an amp right there. 120V moniter: get a 12V one I have a Viewsonic I ran for years straight 12V. I upgraded to a 24" TV and I made sure I got one to run on 12V. Water pump: gonna be expensive to change but consider DC unless the pump is far away. The speakers phone charger and most likely the cell signal booster can all run on direct 12V or step it down to 3 or 5 with cheap buck converters. I know you have a 24V sytem but just tap off a 12V line from the bank. The fridge can even run on DC or at least consider converting a chest freezer to a fridge. And another note on fridge if its more than about 5 years old SELL IT and get a new one. The newer ones are alot more efficient. Cheap 1kw generator would not even start my old one. My 3 year old one runs fine at about 350W. And 2kw air conditioner running one hour shouldnt be a problem as its only gonna run when you have sun anyhow.

What the hell am I watching you for, I could be playing with my kids and saving electricity LOL. Great vid, thanks

try to used a 350watts solar 10 panels off-grid-system
-
I don't think this is right. I believe the solar panels are needed to charge the batteries. So after getting the number of batteries needed why not use that to calculate the number of solar panels needed instead of still using the house consumption.

use killowatt meter on your electric items for 48 hours. then uou know usage. 24 is. 1/2 amp draw to 12. 48 is 1/4. plan system for worst month of the year for solar. fixed array 2 watts for every ah. tracked 11/4 watt to ah. double usage for ah on battery bank. just my simple math on my system. i have 7 days above 50% on no sun
