'How I called International Space Station from my shed' - BBC News
About | Information | History | Online | Facts | Discovery
An amateur radio enthusiast managed to call astronauts on the International Space Station using simple equipment in his shed. Adrian Lane, of Gloucestershire, sent out a call signal to the ISS and was "stunned" when he received a reply. He told Jane Hill on the Victoria Derbyshire programme that the astronaut on board told him the "stars look like diamonds" when viewed from the station. Talk to another human who is just hanging out in space. I could do that down here on Earth. "Hey Bubba what are you up to? Nothing much just having a Pizza and watching the game." Shoot, I want to tap into an alien signal and try to communicate with them. I just hope that I don't sound threatening to them, that they might want to blow up Earth. LOL

00:52 "You said what ?"
Is this a correct question ?
I mean, english is not my mother tongue, but this sounds so wrong. -
Happy Horseshit.

Worldwide, hundreds of radio amateurs and high school students talk to the International Space Station each year. ISS has a programme to promote amateur radio radio http://www.arrl.org/amateur-radio-on-the-international-space-station. This is not news. Just the BBC looking for another cheesy patronising 'just good news' human interest story. The BBC assume their average viewer is generally ignorant of the world and will find this story heart-warming.
You have to laugh at Jane Hill's acting abilities. Faking surprise & enthusiasm that an ordinary British radio amateur spoke to ISS. Something that hundreds do each year.
You also have to laugh at most of the posters on this page who think this is a newsworthy event. -
That would of been Scott Kelly who he spoke too.

Congratulations. This is great!
-
This the closest man has ever gotten to talking to God
-
I can't stand Jane Hill her eyebrows go up and down with every word and it is so off putting.
