Watching this bit of the film diverted my career. Upon graduating from high school a couple of years later (1971), I had no interest in computers because of my belief that they were evil. So I chose another field and only learned to love computers after I was forced to take a programming course in college. Finally after a few years as an engineer I returned to school, got my PhD in computer science and have taught this stuff ever since! Still no threat of HAL ... but we shall see!
