From 2003: Gordon Ramsay already runs four of Britain's top restaurants but he wants more. A New Menu reveals that his latest business conquest is the Connaught Hotel in Mayfair. Famous haunt of aristocrats, millionaires and statesmen, the Connaught's restaurant is a benchmark of traditional British values and French gastronomy. All that's out of the window. The old French chef has been pensioned off, two thirds of the old staff have left and in two months time on opening night it will be a radically different establishment with a woman, Angela Hartnett, running the kitchen. Angela is Gordon's protégé - he's put up the cash but she's running this new venture. He's a notorious task master - as she already knows - and this is the ultimate test of whether she can stand alone, as well as stand up to him. Her first big challenge is the menu tasting where Gordon subjects every dish on Angela's proposed menu to rigorous inspection. She says he can be terrifying but she is not intimidated. But can she really stand up to her formidable boss when the pressure is on?
